I decided to order this loco although I already have a BR50.40 Franco Costi (37040). This one does look a little more special than a "normal" BR50 series, pity that it will be fitted with that cheap marklin 3 pole motor.

Hello Marius in Africa,

why do you think, that it will be fitted with a 3 pole motor? The spare parts list hasn't been published yet.

Hi all,

the spare parts list ist published now. The motor has the number "E255885".
It's the same which was in the 37040, too. That means, ist is a bell anchor engine (Glockenankermotor)!

I'm happy.ThumpUp

No, no, no. The motor that came with the 37040 is E163818. E255885 is the El Cheapo motor you will get if the motor of your 37040 fails.

There is no reason to believe that E255885 has a bell-shaped armature. If it had, Märklin would not sell it for €33.

Tom

Hi Tom,

that could be true, but the E163818 - also the motor of my 37810 - costs now 40 Euro (it used to cost 120 Euro)! It's nearly as cheap as the E255885. What's that?
And why could a cheap motor be the spare part of an expensive motor?
Or is the motor a bell anchor motor, too, but of an other producer?

kind regards

Robert

P.S.: I would be happy, if you could help me with the problem, which I asked also in the german "h0-modellbahnforum": Link.

Sadly I know that Tom is correct here, so I will continue to be quite content with my M37843 that contains a Five pole motor definitely, and has an articulated chassis, and that will out pull the new model, up any given hill or spiral, any day Wink ThumpUp
I do have 37040 as well Wink
I may consider ordering M37929 Class 41 tho ThumpUp
But not if it has a three pole can motor Bored

Hi Marius,

that's the point, where my ability to understand ends.
Why got the E163818 so cheap?
What are the differneces between the E163818 and the E255885?
Why does the E255885 replaced the E163818 in the 37040?

That's really Confused .

kind regards

Robert

Yep. Maybe the old number is now used for a newer motor

Found a link to a dealer - and he gives an RRP of €120 for E163818 (while Märklin currently lists E163818 at €40):
http://www.1zu220-shop.d...ckungseinhei::16826.html

€120 is the RRP I expect for a motor will bell-shaped armature purchased as a Märklin spare part.

ok, than one must find out, what kind of motors* the E163818 and the E255885 are now.
I will ask the Märklin-Service in the next week and tell you the result.

Hi all,

until I could ask Märklin, I've found something new:
Below the exploded view, the spare part number for the motor is the E241192! This motor costs 120 Euro (Meises-Mobacenter)! In other online-shops where you can buy it, it costs 25 Euro, but I think, this online-shops mean the replacement motor E189104. This is the number you get, if you search for the E241192 in the Märklin "Search for Spare Parts".
Pehaps, there are bell anchor motors in the locos, but the replacement motors are normal motors.
But before we judge, we'll wait the answer from Märklin.

kind regards

Robert

Don't expect too much. They will tell you whether it is a three-pole or five-pole motor and that it exceeds their requirements by far.

And Chief Executive Comedian Wolfrad B. told us that five-pole motors do not fit into the boilers of steam locos, so most likely it will be a three-pole motor. They confirmed that the BR 01 #39008 came with a three-pole motor - and BR 01 has a bigger boiler than BR 50.

Thank you Steven

This is good news, the chances for a loco with good running characteristics is better. I truly hope that this is a sign that Marklin has come to their senses and forgo the three pole motor idea altogether.

Well,

I didn't know that kind of 5-pole engine... To me it can be a 5-pole, 3-pole, 9-pole... whatever!;
How can i know what's inside of it?! Only dismantling the motor...

Hi,

yes, it's a 5-pole motor. The differences between all the prices are justified with a reorganisation of the spare parts which has changed the prices of some parts to the good.
