Hi all, I have 2 slightly older locos, a BR17 and a BR18.1 which have yellow LEDs. I would like to replace these with warm white LEDs instead. Has anyone attempted to change these? Is it possible at all without permanent damage to the lamp(holder)s?

If yes, could you possibly post some tips? I have some 0603 SMD LEDs lying around. I seem to recall a post on this or another forum of someone that did exactly this, but I can't find it.

I know I could try to get spare part replacement lamps, but these are terribly expensive if I have to do 2 locos.

Bert

Hello Bert,
I did this on my 01 147 (39010), You can have a lokk here: https://www.marklin-user...rm-white-head-light.aspx

Which model (part number) are Your BR 17 and BR 18.1?

Can You make a picture from the layout?

Hello Moritz,

Thanks for you reply, but in the case of the BR18.1 and BR17 (S10), as well as in the BR59 (Wurtt. K), the LEDs are located inside the small plastic lampholders. There is no lightguide as in most models. Changing LEDs in the example you give is relatively easy, I have done it to a number of locos already (BR05, BR61, BR55, E69, E94, SVT137, V188, V16, Kof2, ...) The difficulty with the current locos is getting the tiny PCB where the LED is on, out without damaging the plastic stuff. I haven't dared to try it yet because it looks so fragile.

Judging from the number of replies I guess not a lot of people have.

Unless someone gives an example of how he/she did it, I will refrain from trying, and will have to live with the yellow color. Sadly Blushing

Bert

Hello Bert,
OK, thats more difficult. I guess there were people who placed the single SMD LED with thin enameled copper wire directly into the lantern.

Reards,
Moritz
