Hi,

I thought I would get started on my layout over the winter but my step-son moved back into my train room. My plan was to fit the layout one hinges so it could be up against the wall when not used, but even that hasn't materialised yet...

I did get to play with it last month when my nephew came over, but to my annoyance, the new Marklin container cars I got for Christmas are so heavy that I can't run the train down the 4% incline :-( The weight pushes the couplers side-ways resulting in the puffers touching and derailing the cars.

What do I do? I feel quite restricted by the size of my layout. I can possibly drop the incline to 3% but doubt that would fix the problem...

If the downhill section is curved this is more or less "expected" if the cars are really heavy and very slow running.
If it is straight, it shouldn't happen at all as I see it...

Maybe a pic of the section where they derail?

Short couplers cannot be pushed to the side. They are available for many newer Märklin cars from the plastic era.

Sorry, it's on an R2 curve I have the problem. The loco is Roco BTW. I'll see if I can test some short couplers.
