Tonight I saw an auction of M* 1 items. Apparently there were not so many contestors. I wasn't able to participate due to a planned concert with my FD but it could have been a good start in M 1! A crocodile in 1 for € 700? Don't think it's a bad deal!

Cool

These prices are quite normal, compared to Ebay.de. If you make a search under "Erweiterte Suche" in the top right corner, you can find all the 5756's sold in the last month. Cheapest the last month is 589,99 and 599,99 EURO.

Hi Per,
Thanks for your opinion!. Maybe I'll give M1 a thought if that's the price range but of course only a locomotive is not enough.

Those were older locomotives, if you want to go into 1-gauge / Spur1 you should IMHO aim for something newer.

My general rules are, with a few exceptions: Only locomotives with a Märklin-number starting with 55.

Most locos with a Märklin-number starting with 57 are equipped with the Allstrom motor and are very difficult to make digital.

Also the details of the locos are very different, most steamers with a 57-number have "blech-gestänge" and internal gears, while the newer 55-numbered steamers have very detailed "kobbel-stange".

Please ask if you plan to buy something, a lot of Ebay sellers "hide" the details if it's an older locomotive.

As example, this is an old loco, the seller does not give you the Märklin-number. Even if it's sold as DC, it's still the Allstrom-motor. Please look at the details of the running gear:

This is a newer model of almost the same loco, different tender though, and a bit more expensive, but you can easy give it a Loksound decoder. Again look at the details of the running gear:

And then, the newest model, very expensive; but enjoy the many detailed pictures:

Excellent information, Per. I thought I would add my .02. The appearance of the ESU 51965 permanent magnet makes it much easier and very inexpensive to digitize the loks that start with 57 and have an Allstrom motor. HOWEVER, over the years the price of a used 57 series and a used 55 series have gotten closer. Having bought and digitized 2 loks from the 1970's, a 5749 and a 5700, I can say that the gears on a 5700 DB 89 are incredibly noisy. The 5749 DB38 is much quieter, but still not silent.
I'd personally have to run across a very, very good price on a 57 series now, to choose it over a 55 series. But I would certainly pull the trigger instantly and do it, if it were a very good bargain.

I can say that the gearboxes on the latest G1 V200, Br140 and V100 are also very noisy - you have to have the sound turned on to cover up the gearbox noise.
