I am trying to add a 2nd 60653 MS2 to the 60113 Connector Box but I’m having problems. I cannot select which one is Master and which one is Slave. My first purchased MS2 (lets called it MS2-A) works fine with my 3 locomotives and I would like to set it as Master. MS2-B will be mostly used to control my turnouts and I would like to set it as Slave. However regardless of which one is connected first, MS2-A always switches to Slave when MS2-B is connected. I tried to connect them simultaneously or with an interval, under power or without power. Also the MS2 software doesn't let you manually toggle between Master/Salve. Below is the configuration information of my two MS2.
Andre
MS2-A
SNR: 106868
SW: V 2.4
HW: V 2.1
LDB: V 014 (2014/5)
Language: V 1.49
Filesystem: V 1.2

MS2-B
SNR: 8769
SW: V 2.3
HW: V 2.0
LDB: V 014 (2014/5)
Language: V 1.49
Filesystem: V 1.2

Hi!
In my experience the MS2 with the lowest serial number will become the master. No way to change it.
So what? Register locos with the master. For driving locos or controlling turnouts there should be no difference between master and slave.

You will have to register your locos again as the master's loco list will be used.
Regards
Tom

Thanks for your reply Tom. I agree with you that should not be an issue, except I’m a very picky person. My first MS2 is brand new and the other is a used model (not as shiny) and I am disappointed that I’m not able to select MS2-A as the master. But don’t worry I will get over it! Also if you were to look at the configuration between the MS2s, MS2-A has a newer software revision # (V 2.4 versus V 2.3); therefore it’s a better candidate to be a Master. Even so the person who sold me MS2-B updated its software to V 2.4 with a CS-2; it still displays V 2.3 on the information screen.

Hi Andre,
Unrelated to your original question that Tom has answered

Can you please elaborate on ...

The "SW V 2.4" is not currently available for retrospective updates so must have come from the factory
- Approx what date did you buy this unit?

Are you able to compare your two MS2s for any feature differences?

And specifically , could you select the "File System" item in the MS2 Infomation section and record here the names of any ???-MS2.BIN file names
(for reference V2.3 equates to 050-MS2.BIN and 051-MS2.BIN)

Hi Peter,
I bought MS2-A (w/V 2.4) from an eBay vendor a week ago, and MS2-B from the same vendor 3 days ago. MS2-A is a brand new unit that came from Germany. It was part of a Digital set that was broken down for sale. I bought it with the 66361 power adapter and a 60113 Connector Box. MS2-B is a used model and don’t know when the vendor acquired it.
I cannot see any physical difference between both MS2s.
MS2-A SNR: 106868 SW: V 2.4 050-ms2.bin 21e400 83028
MS2-B SNR: 8769 SW: V 2.3 050-ms2.bin 11f400 83028
Note: I tried to insert pictures but I cannot find an easy way to do it. When I click the "Insert image" icon it requests an URL. (Too complicated for me)
Andre

Thanks Andre,

The 050-ms2.bin @ size 83028 is consitent,
However there should have also been a 051-ms2.bin (@ size 138679 = v2.3)
it may be that v2.4 has 052... or some other .bin name

p.s. I'm sure Tom and others would like to know if v2.4 fixes some of the known bugs ;-)

I'm rather sure it doesn't fix anything. LOL And the most annoying bug is probably in the track box ... Cursing

I loaded version 2.4 onto my MS2 and it still shows 2.3.

2.4. is for the new hardware (2.1), 2.3 is the latest version for old hardware (2.0).

Master and slave doesn't mean much as the track box does the work.

It should be possible to upgrade the "old" MS2 from the "new" MS2 (with version 2.4) - it should however stay at version 2.3.
Regards
Tom

Thanks Peter and Tom for your replies. To answer Peter’s request for filesystem lines for 051, it is listed below:
MS2-A (V 2.4) 051-ms.bin 270600 138679
MS2-B (V 2.3) 051-ms.bin 133a00 138679
I didn’t see any reference to 052 line in either revision.
I have another question regarding the use of the MS2. Is there any way to move the cursor backward (R to L) to quickly switch from one loco to another? So far I have not found a way to do it and the Märklin’s instruction manual is not very helpful in this regard.
I know this is off subject, but could someone tell me how to add pictures to a posting. When I click the icon for “insert picture” in the tool bar I’m prompted for an URL. Does this mean I need to create my own Web page where I can store pictures and use their corresponding URL to post them on the forum? Is there not an easier way to insert a .jpg picture to the text field?
Best regards,
Andre

Press Shift and turn the speed knob left (or right).
