I soon need to move my collection across over half of the United States. I am planning to pack it and drive it myself in a 16-ft van truck with very good suspensions. It will fill the truck. There are at least three overnights involved. There will be a co-pilot. Almost all travel will be via Interstate highway.

About 3/4 of the locos and rolling stock have original boxes. Rails, signals, etc., are already boxed. There are no layout or cabinets/display items involved.

Does anyone have any experience in doing this and if so, can you provide any advice, suggestions, or tips on making this a smooth and successful operation, both packing-wise and trip-wise?

Thanks

Well, if you can move it yourself, and are present all along the way, there really arent much to worry about (apart from highway robbery and trafic-accidents).
It´s just like driving the groceries home from the shop. -You dont want the eggs cracked...

You might want to take out a specific insurrance, in case that your collection is so huge that it is not covered by standard insurrance.

If I was moving a large Marklin collection across the USA, I would buy an armoured van and pay the Hawaii 5-0 team to escort the van.. It seems that evertime a serious collection of anything is on the road in the USA, some master criminal is out to make it his own.. Look at Lex Luthor his last movie.. RollEyes

I should also mention that a large marklin collection involves a lot of metal. Have you estimated the weight to ensure that your van's suspension is robust enough..
