I am trying to make a "Y" with C track. It is proving frustrating. I cannot get the "tail" of the Y at 90 degrees to the through track. it always ends up a few degrees off.

I think someone on the forum in the not too distant past posted a diagram and listed the needed pieces. I would be grateful for any help.

On a brighter note my M track oval is set up around the Christmas tree. (It would not be a Christmas tree without a train!!)

My old RE 4/4 3014 is making a lovely noise pulling two 4014 cars and a 4035 red restaurant car.

Hi Dreadnought,

This is the wye usually used. It is not symmetrical but works.

UserPostedImage

This one is symmetrical off a straight section, but uses a 3 way turnout. I have not tried this configuration.

Thank you Kimball,
The need to be at 90 degrees to the cross track, and space limitations mean I shall likely go with the three way switch. It will look odd with the stump end. Perhaps I can make a short siding and park something small.

If I make it into the dealer tomorrow it will make his Christmas, and pay for his week in the sun.
I appreciate your detailed diagram.

Recently forum member Tom (aka "HO") posted a compact "90º solution wye" with three regular turnouts. I just cannot detect it right now. Maybe you could contact him via PM.

Thank you AK,

By the time I saw your post I had driven the 100 plus KM to my dealer and back. I had him assemble a three way switch with motors, and a digital decoder. I was anxious to try it. Luckily I had him test it before leaving the store.

Two hours later he could not get it to work. It seems the new style de coders use DC rather than AC. As a result I would have had to get a DC transformer to run it. No thanks, so it will be run by the push button control box. I am surprised Marklin would make a decoder that requires DC power. I have to say the instructions were not very clear in either French or English.

In any event I spent a small fortune getting the necessary bits and pieces. My dealer's Caribbean family holiday is assured

Found an example for a compact 90º wye in the German Stummiforum - see image.
