I've connected my CS1 to my CS2 with an ethernet cable (CS2 is connected to the track) and I want the CS2 to be the master with the CS1 as the slave. I was expecting the list of loco's from the CS2 to automatically appear on the CS1. What am I doing wrong or am I expecting too much?

Is the CS1 at the most recent software version from Marklin? It won't do it with the ESU CS1 reloaded software.

I don't know what the minimum CS2 software revision required is.

Second, are both devices configured to use DHCP in the network settings? If so you will need a router to act as a DHCP master to supply them with IP addresses. An old non-wireless router will do, but if you have a wireless router then you have an advantage that you can also use Marklins smart phone app as well.

I don't know what settings need to be set up in the CS2 to allow this configuration, or if it just automatically works otherwise.

Fixed IP addresses should be used since you set up the CS1 IP on the CS2.

Considered the Connection is established and If I don't remember it wrong - you will have to assign which Locos (and eventually also accessories) who are to be controlled/controllable through the CS1-Slave. If so - it's done in the Setup/CS1 section.

You are definitely expecting to much

If you follow the instructions you must, at the very least, select the CS1 for use with the CS2.
During this process you are asked if you want to replicate the database or not.
