Hi,

I had a basic question about the Marklin TEE coaches (like #4089) which are made out of tin (pre-plastic).

I purchased 4 used coaches and none of them have the plastic tan-colored seats in them that all my other TEE coaches have. I was wondering if Marklin had a period where they were making coaches without the interior in them, or if someone had removed the interiors (though I don't see how they would have been able to disassemble the coach to pull the interior out)

Thanks much for any help.

Regards,
Ruben

Ruben,
Not a silly question at all. The TEE coaches were first released as 4055-4059 without interiors ~ 1966 - two years later they were renumbered in the 408x series, with interiors. I received 3 of the cars in 1968, where the local store simply renumbered the original numbers with handwritten stickers with the new series. #s. Didn't realize until I read the 68/69 catalog carefully the the new numbers came with interiors. And though I'm a very infrequent poster, welcome!

Hi guys,

Additionally some of the TEE coaches were also produced under the Primex brand, also without interiors.

These were:

Primex 4288 - Open seating coach equivalent to Marklin 4056 (4086 with interior)

Primex 4289 - Dining car equivalent to Marklin 4057 (4087 with interior)

Many more of the tinplate coaches were produced under the Primex label, and they can be a good source of extra coaches. I have a few which I have fitted with Marklin interior details sets and run with my Marklin coaches.

I make use of this resource to look for suitable coaches on ebay:

Hope this information is useful.

Ruben,
I always stop by here when I'm online, which is . . . a lot. So rare though that I might be able to answer a question.

Ray - thank you for the Primex info. I constantly forget about the Primex world, and didn't know about the Primex TEE coaches. Always great to learn something new.
Cheers,
Fred
