Well, after using the Olympus E-620 with various lenses for a while now I thought I should get a smaller "allround" camera...

So, I looked and looked - and the only one that seemed to appeal to me was the Olympus Stylus 1...

So I got it, and it exceeds my expectations in every way... Great low light shooting quality, reasonable zoom lens,
fast focus and above all - F2.8 through the 28-300 mm (35mm eq) range...

It seems to be absolutely perfect to shoot layouts, models and such since it is very easy to use also with manual focus
and can do it in normal dull room lighting...

So far I am extatic about it and I think it can replace the E-620 in most situations except while shooting really long
tele where the E-620 and the 70-300mm (140-600mm 35mm eq) will shine as usual. Maybe also really close-up macro shots...

A wonderful little camera that is built on the OM-D base technology...

A sample pic of the box in very low light taken with the contents of the box...

Hi Juhan. I have been looking at cameras also. I take all my pictures with my IPhone and was thinking it was time to upgrade. So I will be happy to read more about your experiences with the new camera.

Hello Juhan!
Excellent choice! Of course, you wouldn't have expected anything else from another long time (40yr+) Olympus enthusiast.BigGrin Wink

Hi Juhan. I do not know much about photography although I would love to take a course in it some day. I assume it has the longer exposure

for good nighttime shots? If you don't mind my asking, how much does yours cost? Cheers,Peter Cool

@Chris - I have been using my Nokia Lumia 820 with an 8 Mpx Zeiss lens camera for many shots in the forum & FB, especially the wagon construction story & cat pics.
There are times when the phone isn't enough and the DSLR is too bulky with the lenses you have to carry, so I "needed" a smaller all purpose camera, especially for
indoor & outdoor general shooting + "product" shooting...

So far, I am totally happy with it - Like my DSLR in picture quality but more feature packed and easy to use, especially fine tuning manual focus and such...
Your iPhone/iPad can be used as remote control (with live view for shooting) as well as a picture viewer (and transfer to the Camera Roll) via a free app, as
well as a GPS geotagging app, via a private WiFi connection between the camera & iThingie... Love this camera so far...

@Jacques - I got my OM-10 in 1979 and used it until about 1997 when I got my first digital camera - a Canon PowerShot 640. Then in 2000 I got a Kodak DC240
together with a computer package deal. However, these were early days of digital cameras so the OM-10 was still considered for better quality pics...

But digital was the way and when Canon introduced the "Rebel" and Olympus introduced the E-330 & E-1, digital was the way to go. So I got myself the
Olympus C-8080 - a fantastic camera with extreme optical qualities. After that it has been Olympus all the way...
SP-500 for the son, SP-560 for me, then the E-420, E-620 and now finally the Stylus 1 - which has everything the C-8080 had and much more in a smaller package...
Olympus is the "new ideas & technology" company, but unfortunately the "followers" like Nikon & Canon are more "known" to the general public and copy the basic
new innovations & concepts from Olympus.

Cleo in front of the computer display tonight, very low ambient light as you can see by the totally white blurred background of the display light...

Shot with the new camera at ISO 400, so the image stabilization seems to work just fine...

Please note the 2nd Cleo shot...

The only light in the room are the displays and that IKEA table lamp halfway over the main display...
The rest of the room is unlit and completely dark, so the camera sees it as a shot against the sun in daylight...

I thing it's quite impressive that the fur is sharp and you can see Cleo's eyes in the totally "black shadow" she is...

I am very impressed by the camera indeed...

And if you pop the flash up, it will adjust it as a "fill-in" flash to illuminate just the foreground...

Ystad is on our list for the next trip. We want to check out where Inspector Wallander hangs out.. (The Swedish one not the BBC guy!).

The last 2 months I have been in Ystad and the village Köpingebro practically every 2-3rd day to see my parents since my father has been very ill (pneumonia, blood-poisioning & a stroke while at hospital for the first 2) so I haven't been too cheerful lately (nor motivated to finish all the 15-year wagons) due to this. However he now seems to recover a bit...

During one of my visits, I saw the BBC crew do environmental shots for the next Branaugh movie of the Wallander stories...

Ok, back to topic....

Yesterday I visited the HMJF grand reopening weekend and had the new camera with me.
I think it performed ok in the not so well illuminated premises...

The example shots are both from the same spot, hand held in poor light, one quite "wide" and one with almost max zoom...
This camera still amazes me regarding the quality of shots... And, it's real water in that stream & lake...

You can see many more pics in the marklin-users.net Facebook group
Too many to post in this topic...

You sure have a nice camera. The picture of me at HJMF is very sharp indeed.
Well, maybe you didn't take a pictore of me, probably you just wanted a picture of the roundhouse. But you got me as a bonus in the picture when you took it.. BigGrin
