I just received and unboxed my BR 05 Cab Forward 39053. After placing on the tracks I noticed a significant amount of play in the drive train when moving the loco by hand back and forth. Certainly more than my other steam engines.

Is this normal - what have you seen on yours?

I'm gonna see how she runs now.

Thanks

Charles

Mine moves back and forth I'd say about 1cm which is about double what the 01 150 I had next to it. It makes a bit of a clunking noise when I do this. So I supposed more movement is "normal"

Thanks - that sounds about like mine.

Mine does seem to run very smoothly and solid smooth starts.

I was just concerned not seeing that kind of play before.

I'll ask my dealer to perhaps ask Marklin or i"ll ask the club to inquire.

Sounds logical: with worm drive transmissions, there is always a little axial "play". This translate by a few degrees of wheels' rotation.
Barely noticeable on small wheels, but on larger diameters it will translate in a longer distance.
Since you noticed yourself that it rune smoothly...you shouldn't worry!
Enjoy!
