Hi,

Did a test run of my Roco MZ loco which included my new slim points. Half-way through the points the loco stopped with a bang as the tall studs had touched the coupler on the loco.

Why are these studs so tall?

Thanks

Roco MZ loco fitted with NEM 362 coupling? Have you tried change to Marklin coupling 7203?

Google suggests it's a "Roco 40243 Standard D-link coupling" So can I just change to a Marklin coupling?

I am actually really keen on Telex couplers on this loco, is that possible and/or will it make the problem worse? I have just had to remove the plow from my Roco DSB Lyntog, as it hit the studs on a standard point. That has never happened before when the track has just been on the floor. Maybe something is just wonky?

But anyway, why are the studs on these slim points so tall?

Thanks

Standard turnouts have insulated outer rails, thus there is no short if the slider connects studs and rails.
With slim turnouts, the rails are not insulated and there will be a short if the slider connects studs and rails. To prevent this, the studs are a bit higher.

Märklin couplers on Roco rolling stock can lead to problems. I wouldn't try it - it may work though, so feel free to give it a try.
Maybe you can just bend the part that touches the studs a little bit.

Hi Morsing,

Did you fitted it with the skirting in front?

I had to take mine off as it would hit anything during a decline.

Hi,

The loco has stopped hitting the studs for whatever reason, but it's still loosing power and restarting every time it goes over the points, even the straight bit. Very annoying.

As I had already bought a Marklin 7203 coupler, I tried it on the Loco. *It does not work*. The coupler sits in between the buffers preventing it from moving and derailing the coaches at every corner.

I also have problems with the Roco coupler un-hooking the coaches for every couple of laps on the track. It's always in the same spot for some reason.
