Hi, Panayotis,

I hope you managed to upgrade the firmware meanwhile.

If not, here are some screen shots.

1: On the loco properties screen, click "Upd".

2: On the configuration screen, click in the "Br" column for items you want to update.

3: Select the appropriate file from the selection screen.

4: To transfer the firmware to the loco, press the button with the arrow pointing to the loco.

mSD 1.9.15 is the latest "Decoder Fw" for the sound decoders. The "mLD" version selected on the screen shots is not correct for you.

Hi,
I am trying to update the sound of a 60966 decoder but each time I press the upd I get a message from the CS2 "the release request to the decoder was not successfull"
Have any of you experience this problem? Does the CS@ need to be connected to the Internet?

Best regards
Eduardo

Only when the CS2 was on "STOP". Or maybe other reasons why mfx feedback is not coming through.

Hi Tom,

I am clearly missing something in this process. I have been trying to reprogram sound on my 60946 decoder which the brief literature on Maerklin.de appears to tell me I can do. That said, I do not understand how to get the correct data (in my case, the BR216 / V160) from my USB stick to the CS2.

I thought this could be done without additional hardware? When I try to update from the CS2 setup screen, it doesn't appear to be doing anything except when I check status, a bunch of errors appear, for example;

***Skipping everything below this failed directory***
./
rsync: mkstemp "/tmplog/stick/cs2/update/.fds.md5.sPgPfX" failed:
input/output error(5)

and so it goes on.

On the surface of it, the format of what ever I am copying to the USB is incorrect but there is no guidance as to what it should be. I can see the status report appearing to search for updates against each locomotive in the database, resulting in input/output error (5) on each line.

Can you please advise what exact data should be contained on the USB and how do I specifically update one sound file, such as the V160?

Kind regards,

Michael.

Try a USB stick in the range 1 GB to 8 GB formatted with e.g. FAT32.
Maybe your USB stick has a format that is not supported by the CS2 (e.g. NTFS) or it is too big.

The CS2 will copy the sound files from the USB stick to the decoder. This will work without additional hardware, provided the CS2 can read from the USB stick.
Regards
Tom

Sure enough - I just saw the error message;

rsync: mkstemp "/tmplog/stick/cs2/update/snd/.mSD-Diesel-
BR216.snd.hVO0tQ" failed: input/output error(5)

Regards,

Michael.

Hi Tom - sorry - I was typing as you were.

The USB is an 8 Gig with 7.45 available. Formatted to FAT32 (scandisk).

Cheers,

Michael.

I have swapped for another USB stick - same size, 8 GB, FAT32 format.

Latest message is now;

Bitte das Soundupdate nicht doppelt starten --- (Notbremse gezogen)

Any ideas?

Regards,

Michael.

Wait ... progress, I think!!!

I shut down and restarted the CS2 prior to changing over to the new USB. It appears I may have not given the stick enough time to connect to the CS2 as now I am seeing what appear to be updates.

Next question - how long to leave it going? Does the update status screen tell you when it has completed?

(turning this section into the dummies guide to sound updates on MSD)

Many thanks Tom - it appears there must have been an issue with the other stick.

Cheers,

Michael.

It can take hours.
There will be a message in the status window when it has completed.

There should be a project for BR 216/BR V 160. Check the names of the available files.
Typically the decoders come with outdated firmware, so you will upload four files. Two files will be generic MSD files (do not select MLD files and since files are sorted by name, not by number, the latest version is not always at the end of the list). Two files will be specific for the diesel sound project.

If you cannot find an appropriate sound, search this page for "Sound einer Diesellok BR 216, V 160" and copy the file to your USB stick (now that you know it works with the CS2):
http://www.maerklin.de/d...r-updates/diesel-sounds/

Tom

Many thanks Tom - you have restored my faith in M's technology. I will give it another try with your latest advice tomorrow and let you know how I go.

Kind regards,

Michael.

Even though a stick is formatted FAT32 and is within the size constraint, it may still not work due to subtle differences in how the USB chip performs.

Due to limited memory constraints the cs2 may not have all the required drivers to handle the different USB controllers in the memory sticks.

This problem is not unique to the cs2, my video PVR has the same problem, and it is a familiar problem to anyone developing software for embedded computer systems (which is what is at the heart of a cs2).
