Is it possible to convert the SK 800 to digital?

The SK800 is not on Marklin's list of locos that can be converted to digital. I assume that the SK800 has a LFCM, but I don't know if the LFCM kit for digital operation will fit the SK800. You might be able to use a decoder such as the TD101 (www.trenesdigitales.com.ar/en/decoders/10-td101.html) which can drive an AC motor without having to convert the motor with a permanent magnet.

I've never ever heard of anyone converting a SK800 to digital, and I certainly won't be converting mine!

Using the old c80 6080 chip might work.

Hi Marco, I think this topic may get more replies in the "digital" section. Certainly there will be few true collectors of old Marklin who would have experience of converting their locos to digital.

To keep as much of this loco as possible in original condition I would use one of the decoder types that keeps the AC motor. The 6080 decoder should do, or the 66032 newer Delta decoder, which has the possibility of an extra function.

Needless to say I would keep safe any parts that are taken out, such as the reversing unit and original wiring, to be re-instated in the loco if desired in the future.

I think that a Marklin collector would never converted this locomotive to digital.

Convert it.

If it just sits on a shelf, or worse, is left forgotten in a box because your layout is now digital, then why even keep it? Don't say investment, you'll do better with the money in the stock market.

Use a 6080 so you can keep the original motor and do not cut, chop or butcher anything for the conversion. Save the parts so you can put it back in the future.

But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs
ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control.
With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397.
