Hello,
There are already two other 3964x related topics going on, and my intention is not to blame the nice model or quality.

Our loco is the Era IV version 39643. It started sputtering when going over M-track turnouts, got cranky and wanted re-register over and over.
Finally after a dozen times it went dead.
It doesn't register with MS2, react on analog track power and won't reprogram (CV8 reset).
I can't see any broken connections or loose leads.
Pulled the decoder out and put it back, no luck.

The replacement chip is listed at Märklin parts list for app 150 EUR, which is perhaps the only way to get going like before.
I'm not familiar with new Märklin decoders and need some help.

Do you forum members know which non-sound decoder would work in it?

Thanks,
Juha

The decoder on the picture has a green PCB, so the normal 60942 should work as a replacement.

The loco has an SDS and the decoder will require special programming to work with SDS.
To do this programming with an MS2, you have to disable mfx in the MS2 and do the programming with DCC. Once the decoder was programmed you can enable mfx in the MS2 again.

Are you sure it's out of warranty?
Regards
Tom

Thanks Tom, just what I needed!

Yes, its more than three years old but has less that 2 hours running time.
Lessons learnt: Run your locos as much as you can when they still work.

Juha
