As many will recall, despite all efforts to resolve an over heat problem..my 5 pole BR89 burnt up some months ago.

https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...iterally.aspx#post460796

The German eBay seller kindly returned it to Marklin. It really took a long time but I finally got a message from Germany this morning:

"Grahame,

today I have got your loco back - new motor - warranty repair! Bad news? ;-)

Regards,
Matthias"

Meanwhile, as a back up, I purchased another BR89 for a very reasonable price. These go for crazy prices on eBay, it seems some people think they are worth their weight in gold. This one was a starting bid of $45 and buy it now for $65, mint condition and tested. This time a 3 pole version (by design - that is what I wanted) which initially ran rather warm too. I have however I think solved this problem and now have it running quite nicely generating almost no heat at all. I have to say my 3 pole version runs every bit as well as the 5 pole ever did, although some may say the 5 pole is smoother perhaps.

Looking forward to receiving my original 5 pole version soon.

Cheers,

Grahame

Hi Grahame,
Good to hear that Marklin repaired your engine and I'd be glad to read any tips you have on solving your other warm motor problem.
thanks,
George

Hi George, I will send more details once I get my 5 pole BR89 back. Just want to double check the same thing works on this one too.

Cheers

Here is my BR89 running nicely at only 3.1 volts!!

Application of Atlas Conductalube to the rear face of the wheels is the key to getting these to run nicely at LOW voltage..which minimises the heat. From my experience this particular loco is prone to getting quite hot even at voltages well within the Marklin specification.
