Yes, the B-216 kit is way over priced.
It is just a kit from the seventies.
Although maybe a bit rare because it was only for a short time in the Faller program (1971 to 1975), but still a mint B-216 is not worth more than € 150,=

It continued on as B-296 for a time then as 130296 and was still in the program as recently as 2012.

The only difference between them is the removal of the base-plates to match the AMS track, and of course the motor and mechanism to open the doors. Motor is easy to find, the disc and links not hard to fabricate and the base-plates easy to replicate if needed.

I suspect part of the problem was that the wash-hall was so short. I have two of this kit and once had a display running which included the car wash operating. Trying to drive a car into the wash, and stopping it at precisely the right spot so that the doors would close is not reliable.

By far the better way is to fit isolators to the track so that there is a join exactly where the car needs to stop and power to the track used to control the car rather than the controller.

Adding a switch to the doors or motor could then control the track power so that the car would exit by itself when the door is fully opened.

Actually, now that I think about it, this would make an awesome automated display. A line of cars automatically advancing through and leaving the car wash in perfect synchronisation.

Hmmmmm, a project for another day.
