Dear Marklin Users - I'm certain I'm one of very many people who still own their childhood Marklin three rail train set. The time has come to set up a permanent display, but I'm undecided about the layout style to go for - I do wish to use the old style track which is very nostalgic, but I feel it may look odd if I then go for a hyper realistic setting. My first option to date is to replicate one of the displays exactly as it appears in the old catalogues/track plans. Can anyone out there offer advice/references ? Thanks, or Vielen Danke ! Stephen

Hi Stephen,
Welcome to the forum. ThumpUp
There are thousands of hobbyists out there who stick to the good old M-track or to the 3600 solid center rail track, I'm one of them.

You might like the Spanish website with all the old Marklin catalogs online as well as the vintage track plan books.

Welcome Stephen. I like the look of all three types of track and personally I use C Track. I think alot of people trying to go for the most realistic look use K track but it comes down to what you like.

Hi Stephen, welcome to the forum.

I started out with M track, but recently moved to C Track. My experience is that running is a lot smoother and quieter with C track, and I get virtually no derailments, whereas my old M track layout was prone to derailments everywhere.

Apart from this I find that C track can be blended in with ballast of the same colour much more easily than M track. Here is an example from my layout:

Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

With the rubber '7171' sound mufflers for M-track, running on M-track is quit too.

Welcome to the forum, Stephen.
If you look at the Me and My Layout section you will find examples of M track layouts that look very realistic. With the appropriate detailing, it can be made to look absolutely wonderful. Your choice of layouts may be wider than you imagine.
Have fun
