Hello,
I had to print a few new loco card label and created a new design, which can be used with AVERY/Zweckform Removable Labels L4737REV-25 and Microsoft Word:

The label are to small to contain all information, therefore I use two of them:

The upper label contains the loco name and a picture:

The lower one contains thedescription of the most important functions and the digital protocol and decoder address:

Then I have to cut the withstand part of the label:

And ready is the new loco card for MS2 and CS2 card reader:

And here are 4 new loco cards:

The Messwagen, V36 and the E 19 11 will follow to be ready for the next model railway meeting next Wednesday!

Those aren't Marklin branded smart cards that you are using, what are they?

I do something similar with my cards, in that I stick a picture of the loco on the card. I don't bother with the function definitions, as I figure they are already programed on the card and can be referenced on the CS2.

Yes, the Cards are from www.reichelt.de and they are much cheaper, only 1,55€ per Card.

I Print the function and address on the Card because the icons in MS2 / CS2 are not clear. E.g. there are light icons, but who knows, which light is it? And it is usefull if You take the loco to a friend without MS2/CS2. Then You have the most important info available.

David,
You picked the right card.

The cards are 8 kiB or 64 kib.
8 kilobytes or 64 kilobits.

Other cards from other suppliers may also work.
Regards
Tom

Great idea, Moritz!

I just scribble on the card with a CD marker. It doesn't look anywhere as nice! BigGrin

Fixed some errors of the function description by replacing the lower label, only.

This company would charge me 30 euro for postage, making it very expensive. Does anyone know of any source with a more friendly/accessible online shop?

You may ask here, they are cheaper and look more pretty (white with logo on back side):
http://www.can-digital-b...ys3&modul=63#Mod_Top

10 pices for 12,99€ or 20 for 25€:

You can also buy with printed loco picture on front side.

They take 10€ for shipping in foreign countries.

Write email to info@can-digital-bahn.com

Futurlec have 8kB cards for AUD1.47 each (less, in quantity).
The correct card is called "Smart Card - AT24C64".

They are plain white, and appear to work fine in my CS2.

Note that delivery took about 2½ weeks to Brisbane (they appear to ship direct from Taiwan).
Cheers,
Damon

Hi Damon,

I bought some of those cards from Futurlec and I'm having problems with the CS2 not writing to them. Do they need to be formatted or something similar before they will work?

Regards
Greg

No, this is not necessary! When You use a new card, the CS2/MS2 will respond with an error message, that this card can't be read. But You can ignore this and write. Then, when You plug in the card the next time, it should be recognized and read correctly.

I tried this, however, it locks up the CS2 and the only way I can unlock the CS2 is to remove the card. Does it take a long time to write to the card?

Greg

I tried with 2 cards, and they both worked perfectly!
I think I had to use Moritz's method, for first use.

Make sure:
  • Your CS2 firmware is up-to-date
  • The card is Smart Card - AT24C64
  • The chip is facing down
  • Any loco icons are less than about 6KB

It should only take a few seconds -- you should see a progress bar.
Cheers,
Damon
