EUROSPOOR 2014 - 22nd edition
24 - 25 - 26 October 2014

Largest international MRR event in Europe.

Of course held in Holland at the "Jaarbeurs Utrecht"- the best exhibition location in Holland - which is 100% internationally oriented.
Very good parking facilities and the train station at a few minutes walking distance.

  • 20,000 square meters/ 200,000 square feet (2 huge halls).
  • 1 kilometer Swap meet/ 2nd hand MRR market.
  • Many stands of retailers and clubs.
  • 60 layouts.
  • Displayed model train collections.
  • Modelling demonstrations.
  • Many corners where you can sit, eat and drink for small money.

Buying at (extremely) low prices !
At the swapmeet / 2nd hand MRR market as well at the stands of national and international firms you can purchase new and used articles and parts at (extremely) low prices.

Last year I've seen German and Dutch ebay sellers that sell their stuff for 15-20% less than their ebay listed items.

Of course there is lots and lots of Marklin for sale.

Thanks Marco! Very tempting, but a bit far for me.

Maybe I can find an excuse to visit Holland in October?

Hi Ray,

Haha.
I have plans to visit the holy grounds of Gütenbach, that's a bit far for me too (800 km).

I want to say that Eurospoor was great again this year, I believe it was bigger than last year, with more layouts and a lot more Sellers, with some good bargains on display and as always some great deals to be haggled out. I have gone on to Munich with my son after Eurospoor for some R&R and of course a lot of beer, but I will try and upload some videos and when I get back show off some purchases and maybe even a little report if one has not already been done by then. Suffice to say this year there were 7 in our little group (from UK, USA and Canada), all of the Forum, and understand that there were at least two other Forum members from UK who we did not have time to meet up with as they were passing through Sad but I think we all had a great time, both inside and outside the show halls.

So to kick things off here is a video of an exhibitor called Gletsch;

Best Regards

Glenn

PS: As always apologies for the quality of some of the videos, but the show is not always the best venue for filming

This next layout was a little devoid of trains, as it was the last video I shot and they were sadly packing up, but nevertheless a great little exhibition layout - Altburg On Tour 2014;

Warren Lane (which was also on display at Perth in 2014);

Rhydwyn Fawr Steel layout which was at Warley Show in 2013 and won a major award;

IMHO this was the best display layout at Eurospoor 2014, it is a French club layout and the video needs to be watched in HD to appreciate the work they have done to the scenery, which was simply wonderful. The display was six modules, in individual framed cases to act as if they were individual windows on the scene, rather than a continuous display;

Apparently the layout has been covered by several European MRR magazines and so it may not be new to some of you.

Well, that was a pleasant 10 minutes "wasted" watching instead of working. Blushing

Well worth looking at in HD on a decent size screen. I liked the way you pushed the limits of the barriers and held the camera over the track at various times.

Thanks Alan for your kind words. I had a good chat with them about the layout and one of the magazines in which it has recently featured and they were quite relaxed about the filming, I think once they realise that you are capable around trains, they are happy to show off the layout. I will post another video hopefully soon, which again shows some interesting shots over the layout, and again after a good chat with the layout owner he was happy to film as I liked.

Best Regards

I have just returned from Eurospoor. It was my first time. As such I thought my impressions might be of interest to those who have never been.

Kweekalot posted the brochure for the event. Even though I had read it, and knew what to expect I was astonished.

Half the area is for vendors. Some are Marklin dealers from various parts of Europe, mainly the Netherlands and Germany. The other half is a display area for model railroad clubs and manufacturers.

The display area had some excellent layouts. Glenn has beautifully captured the French "Franche-Comte" display! "La Bosse Grande". I think it is supposed to accurately represent a portion of the line from Lyons to Turin.

I did see one Marklin display. It was not easy to spot as Marklin. The pukos were disguised by a line of "grime" running up the centre of the track. Only at the switches were they clearly visible. I think there was a second Marklin layout. Both were club layouts. Marklin itself was not present.

The vendor area was vast. There was a lot of Marklin. I also saw n scale and z. HAG, other AC and DC models were also available. For those looking for that set they missed or a particular locomotive it is Ali Baba's cave. There were huge quantities of M track, often under the tables. People we rooting through it to find what they wanted. Most of it looked to be in good shape. There was a lot of C track. I did not see as much K track.

A lot of vendors were selling parts, wheels, windows, brushes, tools, and catenary. I did not notice any new style catenary. Some dealers had only scenery, or cars and trucks. Most buyers seemed to be looking for track and parts.

I met some members of the forum. I have to say they are expert hagglers. I can recommend following them to learn. First there was the strategy and tactics meeting then on to the vendor. The tag team approach in particular was fascinating and rewarding. I regret to say my own haggling led to me paying far closer to the full price, and on one occasion a bit more. Let's just say it was not my best haggling day.

A Dutch company, Artitec, had some lovely models with incredible detail. They were Dutch steam locomotives of era two and three. Some might have been era one, but I was not expert enough to say. They also had rail cars from era three and four.

I deeply suspect some members of the forum may have been less than loyal to Marklin, and succumbed to the beauty and precision of these models. They are not cheap, I think about seven hundred Euros and up. Others may be more accurate as to the prices. I am proud to say I remained true to Marklin. Actually the treasury could not manage any disloyalty, with all my other purchases, so I make a virtue of necessity.

I can strongly recommend Eurospoor. Meeting up with other forum members was a huge part of the event. Their company, and the event made for a wonderful three days.

Thank you to them and this forum for opening the door to so much fun.

Glenn,

I think the "sentence" should be to show us the amazing models, forum rules permitting.

For any going to the show next year, the best advice I received was "bring plenty of Euros. Few vendors take credits cards. It is pretty much "folding money" only.

YEP heaps of folding money is needed , only 1 ATM close by the exhibition hall which ran out of money each day & had a limit on the amount available for overseas customers . We visited Eurospoor in 2012 for the 3 days & enjoyed ourselves purchasing many items. Read my report on the 2012 exhibition in this forum a couple of lines further down the page .

Cheers Tom in Oz.

Opps apparently the post has been moved to the archive , Not sure how or where to access this area .
