Some time ago I've bought this loco at good price via internet.
Despite the Märklin photo of the model, mine have a very big horn, that I think is very out of scale.
My question is, are all these models in the set same on mine or it is part of a stock at good price due this reason?

On the right here

Hi Alberto,

I've been looking through photos of Di 3 locos on the internet and I've found some with a smaller horn, some with a larger horn, and some with no horn at all. The larger horn I've seen still seems to be quite a bit smaller than the one on your model, but I don't know if there are real ones like the one you have.

Alberto you don't have to look far, here is a configuration of NSB Nohab's by Svein, Intruder

http://www.saebonet.com/...es/loco_types/NoHABs.htm

your 2 locos are: 3137 and 29660 from a starter set (as mentioned).

https://www.marklin-user...-Marklin.aspx#post429587

part of being a popular loco world wide Märklin made the most of it to promote it in different colours and railway companies with slight changes over the years, I've sold mine due to a reduction in Railway companies running on my layout but I still have the Roco DM 3 and the blue Iron Ore double loco (1 part of it). I've finished up converting the 3137 with a 5 pole motor and sound, the other 4 locos (3174) never made it into the collectors corner although they had trouble applying all the different colours, so in the end I sold all of them as well., some one in Sweden.

I don't know if Svein has bought the entire set or only the loco as me, here the page of the catalog where we can see the correct horn.

Also the Windows grates are Painted brown, and no ladders?
Is it the new tooling?

Old tooling.

Märklin's "hand-made samples" in the new items brochures often look quite different from the series production. All pictures I found of 29660 show the big horn and the silver window shields.

Tom

Hi Alberto,
I believe the extended life of the NSB Nohabs has come to a point where Märklin has run out of some parts and used some "similar" parts instead.
The horn on my 29660 is not the correct one but looks exactly like one of the two horns on the roof of the F7 Santa Fe.
At some earlier time they started to use "inverted" buffers on several different Nohabs.
I have attaced a picture of my 4 Nohabs With horn where you can clearly see the 29660 standing out from the crowd.

What do you think about such "faults"?
Are they total failures and need corrections/modifications or should we keep them as they are for collectors value?

Interesting to see the horns and buffers used on the New tooling Nohabs to be launced later this year!

Märklin have to economise their production.
And I have to economise my purchases.

Another example: BR 120.0.
Märklin used to have prototypically correct truck frames for those pre-series locos, but since a few years they use main series truck frames also for the pre-series locos.

Another reason to buy older models on fleaBay and install decoders yourself.
Regards
Tom

Hi Bent,
better to find a right horn and correct the mistake, there are already tons of mistake models since the '50, as you know BigGrin

My first pic show what I have done, bought two 3.607 and one of them used to change the frame with sound decoder at the 3.623.
The 3.607 analog will run on the vintage layout with the old coaches.

Now I need 4 little horn, perhaps a work for a 3d printer. RollEyes

Nice aproch.
I like it!
But anyway, as a starter set for young enthuosiasts, it is god value for the money.
