For some reason or other, I now have 2 CS2's and I'd like to connect them so that I can use the slave CS2 as a booster (expensive booster). My question is - how do you connect them and will it be ok to connect the power to a track section from the slave CS2?

Regards
Greg

For the Connection of 2 Centralstations as Master/Slave you need to buy a Marklin 60213 Cable :

Marklin60123_CS2-CS2-Cable

The easy way to connect 2 Centralstations is as shown on the Picture beneath :

MarklinCS2-CS2-Connection

Another way is as shown on this Picture :

MarklinsCS2-CS2-Connection_Example2

When 2 Centralstations are connected together , the first one is the MASTER, the Second the SLAVE.

MarklinCS2-Slave_Settings

On the Centralstation 2 which acts as a SLAVE, the following things must be made by the user for the "correct" connection :

Under Setup you need to set a "Checkmark" at "Zweitgerat" to mark the CS2 as the SLAVE-unit.

Under "Sync mit Master CS2" set a "Checkmark" for each of things that you want syncronized between the CS2 Master / CS2 Slave - units.

If you want the CS2 SLAVE connected to the Tracks, you have to "divide" your Layout into to "seperate Sections" , where "each" CS2 is supplying "each section".

Take a look at the Userguide for the Marklin 60174 Booster at page 7-10, which show the "principle" for dividing your Layout into Seperate Sections.

All the places on the Tracks where the 2 Sections meets on the Tracks you have to use this, to divide the 2 Sections from each other:

Note :

1) S88 Modules can be connected to both CS2 Master and CS2 Slave.
Remember that the first S88 Module connected with "each" CS2 should have a Connection from the "T"-Output on the S88 Decoder to the ( O ) on the tracks.

Hi Frank,

Thank you very much for your comprehensive and detailed reply - very much appreciated.

I won't use the cable 60123 connection, however, I will use the 60125 connection. Am I correct in saying that I need a different cable to connect this way and what is this cable?

Regards
Greg

The point is: you need cable 60123 to connect them. 60125 and 60126 can be used to increase the distance between them, but you need a 60123 that plugs into the slave CS2.

Tom

As Tom say's, you need to buy the Marklin 60123 Cable for the Connection to the CS2 Slave.

If you want to increase the distance between the Marklin CS2 Master to the Marklin CS2 Slave you can use the Marklin 60125 Terminal to.

2 or 3 or more Marklin 60126 cables can be connected with each other to increase ( 2 or 4 or 6 meters ... ) the distance between the two Centralstation's.

If you often have guest's that visit your railroad-layout i would recommend that you use the Marklin 60125 Terminal and the Marklin 60126 Cable's solution.

You can then benefit from using Marklin 60125 terminal, so that guests can use "their" Marklin 60653 - MS2 / Marklin 60652 - MS1 on your model railway

system to play along with you, if you want this.

This way would allow you to Connect up to 4 Marklin 60653 Mobilestation 2 OR up 4 Marklin 60651/52 Mobilestation 1 to the Marklin 60125 Terminal unit.

The system can be expanded by adding a Marklin 60125 Terminal more to the system.

CS3+ 60216 ( SW:2.5.2 ) - MASTER / CS2 60215 ( SW:4.3.0 ) - SLAVE
MS2 60653/57 ( SW:4.13 ) / MS1 60652 ( SW:1.8AP ) / 60883 S88 LINK ( SW:1.1 )
MDT 3 (SW 3.6.0) - HW: 60970 / 60971 / 60801
ESU LOKPROGRAMMER ( SW 5.2.6 ) / ESU HW: 53451 / 53900 / 53901

Hi Frank,

The 60123 cable arrived today, however, I'm having trouble setting up the slave CS2.

I connected the 60123 cable to the slave CS2 and then I connected a 60124 cable at the other end so that I could connect to a 60125 terminal. I powered up both CS2's and then in setup on the slave CS2 and clicked on the "wrench" and then ticked "auxiliary device" and ticked the 4 options. The CS2 then came back with "no locomotives" and the master CS2 has locked up.

What have I done wrong?

Regards
Greg

You used a 60124.
AFAIK the 60123 should fit at the rear end of the 60125 (without 60124), and not at either side of the 60125 with a 60124 (a cable made to connect Mobile Stations).

Well everything is working well, except for one thing - and that's the thing I originally wanted - to use the 2nd CS2 as a booster. Apparently, the slave CS2 doesn't give any power output. I've connected a multimeter to the track outlet pins and there's no current.

Is there a setting I need to apply to get the power output to function? By the time I sent this message and returned to the layout - suddenly there was power coming from the track outlets. Be blowed if I know why !!! Now I have another problem - will they ever stop? The original section of track that I split up with the slave CS2, has 23V in it and the other section with the original booster, only has 10V. The former section has more track than the later section. Do you think the track connections are poor? I'm not running any jumper wires in any of my layout. The section that has 23V seems to be consistent throughout. Also, none of the turnouts in the section with 23V will operate digitally.

Regards
Greg

Turnouts not working is often the result of swapped feeder wires.

Seeing about 10 or about 30 V track voltage is often the result of an inappropriate volt meter used in AC mode. Try it with red cable at centre rail, then swap cables - in AC mode you should get the same readings either way; if there is a big difference, then simply do not trust your volt meter.
Add a bridge rectifier and measure in DC mode to get better results.

Tom

I reversed the wires connected to the plug that goes into the slave CS2 and still no turnouts working.

Ok, I'm the first to admit I have not kept up with digital technology in the last 15 year and less so with digital trains..... but,

If the second 60215 is running as "slave" to the "primary" 60215 even though there is power at the track outputs of the "slave" (its a always on design I imagine) would it not be routing all "commands" via the "primary" ?

Just a thought, could be totally wrong.
Sad when its cheaper to buy a new 29640 starter set from Germany than a CS2 on its own in Oz, welcome to the joys of Marklin down under .

Here's what I did -

I took one of the turnouts from the layout and connected it to the programming track - it then started to work. I then tried the other turnouts and they worked. I returned the turnout to the layout and all worked. WHY ? I don't know - he's on third !!!

Regards
Greg

Someone asked me to explain "I don't know - he's on third". For those who are too young to know or those who have had the misfortune in their lives not to hear this routine, I've embedded this Youtube feature to explain. Enjoy
