An amazing bit of Engineering, reopened after 60 or so years.

This ex SAR Garratt is I am told the most powerful 2ft gauge loco in the world, as impressive as the Harz system, links to the Festiniog line at Portmadog.

Hi all.
I thought you might like to see this photo that I took in June 2012.

WHR Garratt and Ffestiniog Railway Fairlie at Porthmadog Harbour station.
This year the whole station layout was modified to provide a new ( separate ) station for the WHR so the layout shown has now changed.
The road crossing in front of the locos was a haul road to bring material to increase the width of the "Cob" which is the embankment/dam on which the FR runs and the new station is built.

I will be visiting Porthmadog in August to see the new layout.

Regards, Colin.
