The MS1 indicates overload.

Does the train run?
Or do you always get the overload indication and cannot run the train at all?
Do you have other locos you can try?
Does the overload indicator show even when the track is empty?
Regards
Tom

First inspect the track to make sure the red and brown wire are where they should be (both space connectors fixed to the track). If you have an Ohm meter, measure the impedance between outer rail and centre rail studs while nothing is connected to the box.

I'd make a simple test: take only the feeder track (with the ugly box where the MS1 plugs in), the MS1, and the power supply.
If this set-up also gives overload while the track is empty, then most likely the output stage of the MS1 is dead.

I'm afraid you will still get the overload indication.
Plan A would be getting another MS1 (the current MS1 can probably still be used as a slave so you would have to controllers).
Plan B: Get an MS2 (but note that the old track box cannot be used for the MS2, so it's probably best to buy MS2, track box and power supply from a split starter set).

What you have or what it could be, the off button is sticking, I had several of these Mobile stations, they either went kaputt or the red knob wouldn't scroll probably or the off button finally gave up and continuously showed a short. I took it apart on a few occasions and tried to fix the inner padding but its the material itself which is collapsing after using the off button for a while.
