Hey everyone,

I recently bought a set of OBB Eurofima coaches in the latest livery, and have been debating locomotives for it. Having been a fan of the FS Italian depot in Bologna and spending many hours there, I'm tempted to find an FS electric in AC that would have taken them from Brennero to Bologna as per the prototype. The only problem is nobody is currently offering a suitable model in AC, nor are any past locos sitting on shelves at dealers that I've seen. Then I came across this:

I feel its close enough to the Italian theme I model :) Does anyone know if Marklin has done this paint yet? Or if not if Roco has done it in AC?

Thanks in advance!

There is an 1116 from ÖBB which looks quite similar: http://www.maerklin.de/d...etails.html?art_nr=39831

And the 1216 from ÖBB: http://www.maerklin.de/d...etails.html?art_nr=39836

And Adria GmbH: http://www.maerklin.de/d...etails.html?art_nr=39838

But an Italian?

Hi John C,

I've had a quick squiz thru the catalogue's from 2000 to 2010 and all I can fine are the Italian E424 series loco's from Marklin.

There is a "Red & Grey" version in 2 of them, Sorry forgot the years but its 37240. Oh just realised it the same one in 2 different yearbooks.

Not really what your after though

Sad when its cheaper to buy a new 29640 starter set from Germany than a CS2 on its own in Oz, welcome to the joys of Marklin down under .

If you are looking for a typical Italian lok that would be used for an OBB EC into Italy, here are a few possibilities:

Roco 68584 E444R
Roco 69891 E444R
Roco 69890 E444

There are also the OBB 1216 that can be used on Italian rails.
These trains are currently operated by the OBB in cooperation with LeNord (Trenord)

I think that this ÖBB 1216 would be an excellent (and current) choice if you can find it: Roco 68391

You may ask Rinus ( https://www.marklin-user...-scenery.aspx#post451255 ) from this forum and see what he can come up with, his layout is featured around the Brenner Bahn and he may can also advise you about models traveling in this part of the woods.

H0 models of ÖBB Rh. 1216 without Italian flags are available from Roco, Märklin, and Piko.
IMHO the Roco model is the nicest, but the Piko Expert model is nice and affordable.

Locos 1216 001–025 are prototypically correct for operation in Italy - this includes the world record loco (initially 1216 050, now 1216 025). If you don't find 68391, any of those numbers should do.

Märklin models 39836 and 39838 are not prototypically correct (the prototype locos have no equipment for Italy), but you can easily ignore that.

ÖBB Rh. 1116 has no equipment for DC operation - but on a model layout you can also ignore that and use the loco for Italian trains.

Tom
