Hi Guys

Can I be absolutely sure that an older 60215 (from e.g. early 2012) contains the same hardware as a new one from 2014?

...and yes, I am thinking of getting one. Laugh

Well Søren, Marklin has different hardware versions on the 60215 - early versions were 4.3 I think. A version revision might be just something small like a substitute component for something that can no longer be sourced, or a minor revision to a circuit board layout. Essentially the units will do all the same things, so I don't think you need to worry too much about hardware revision levels.

My 60214 has an early 3.1 hardware version and does not support 5 amp track output, but I can get around that by using 60174 boosters with a 100va power supply.

Okay, so I am not to worry about getting a "slower" version or something like that?

No. Keep in mind that there always will be revisions, so you will be constantly chasing your tail if you worry about it. My v3.1 60214 will do everything the latest 60215 will do, except for the 5 amp output.

Of course minor revisions are inevitable, my worries were that I would loose functionality. Luckily, that is not the case. :-)

Dad has the 60213 CS2 and I have the 60215 CS2. Other that previously posted that "older" CS2 do not handle 100Va, everything is the same.

Marklin has a very good philosophy about making their stuff backward compatible. Even the brand new all plastic C track for the new my world will click together with the usual C track. This makes for easy storage track!

I am using MS1 and CS1 for extra throttles and the CS1 will run switches etc.

You do have a right to be concerned after the mess up with ESU and Marklin over CS1.

However with CS2, I think that Marklin is doing a good job with this product. Far better that many software companies!

Another feature that the v4.3x hardware introduced was galvanic isolation, but again that can be worked around with older hardware versions by making sure you use 60174 boosters, and do not use more than one device in a setup that does not have galvanic isolation with a common earth.

I've got news for you! My 60214 (yes, it is definitely a 60214) has hardware version 3.1

It seems they took some early 60213's, put the 60214 DCC upgrade on them, and called them 60214's.

My CS2 came in a 29500 mega starter set (https://www.marklin-users.net/fo...aspx?g=posts&t=16858)

Hi Bigdaddynz

Ive have been helping som of my railroad friends with updating the CS2 (60214).

I have about 7-8 CS2 units (60214) in my hands and only seen Hardware-version 3.6 and 4.33 for the 60214 version

I Have a 60215 my self with Hardware-version 4.33 which i use on my H0-Layout (45 m2) with cable dimensions above 0.75 mm under the Layout.

I Have seen about 2-3 Marklin 60215 Unit also, but they all had the Hardware-version 4.33 installed.

Another funny thing regarding the CS2 is also that Marklin writes on the Update-website for the CS2 that USB-Updates wont be Updated anymore.

if you look in the Marklin Product-databank and enter "60215" to search for and take a look at the Product-page for the CS2 60215 it states under

the "Highlights"-section (The last line) that a USB-Update to the CS2 will be offered for Download in April 2014.

Hello Frank!

It's off this topic (actually it's about your footnotes), but in short I want to congratulate you about your extensive/huge collection of CS2 icons!

Love

Cheers,

Walter
