A friend of mine and myself, we both got a new CS2 (60215) for Christmas 2013. There are no problems that I can see. He says his CS2 came with a small black box (#191724) (?). He says it hooks up to both, the program and the main tracks.

I did not get one of those. Does anyone know something about this?

To meet FCC regulations, this box is supposed to be connected between the CS2 and the track. You do not need it to run trains.

As I have hearing aids and in Telecoil mode, I can hear certain electronic noise. Fluorescent light ballasts are by far the worst! and they are approved!!!!!Cursing

There is a little e-noise coming from the tracks that these boxes do get rid of. I use it just because the e-noise is a pet peeve of mine and may have effect on cell and cordless phone performance. I am not sure if it has an effect on wi-fi with the ithings's Mobile and Main Station apps....

If you got your CS2 from a US dealer, they should have provided one for you.... unless they got it straight from Germany...

As the FCC regulations are quite sensitive and EU does not require it, I think that you should have no problem running without it.

If you or your neighbour is complaining about terrible cordless phones, digital TV etc. while you are running trains, then it may be necessary. I do not think so as most of our layouts are in the basement and relatively shielded.

The 191724 is required by current EU regulations, the 74044 is for FCC regulations.
AFAIK the 191724 is required as of 01.01.2013 and they started to include it in Q4/2012.

So depending on when the dealer stocked the CS2 it will come with or without 191724.

Tom

Thanks fellas for the information. I've been wondering for 6 months what the little black box was for - marvellous (as our Richie would say).
