Hello everyone,

Can any one tell me in millimetres how much clearance you need between the overhead mast and baseboard edge

Whatever you can give it!

On the other hand, allow 15mm from the edge of the track to the front of the mast, this will allow locos with large overhang such as a Big Boy to get around curves without hitting the mast.

Evan,
what brand of overhead mast are we talking about, with Sommerfeldt masts you drill a hole into the baseboard and from there whatever height you reach. if you use an additional extending arm it may reduces the height by 3-5 mm. you always can put a loco with pantographs under the mast and see how much clearance you've got if you're not sure. one could say pantographs are usually about 75% extended going through tunnels it would be around 50% and at railway crossings may be up to 80-85%

I presume you mean distance from centre of track to mast centre.
It depends on the type of mast. SOMMERFELDT protocol is :
