Hi all,

This item has turned up on our local auction site...

http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=696936763

I don't recall ever seeing one before, but that's not to say it isn't genuine, but the style is like nothing I have seen before either, in fact to me it's more typical of a Hornby-Dublo style of accessory, with a Märklin label placed on it. It actually looks quite good IMHO, but is it "the real deal" (as Dickinson would say)?

Dimensions would indicate at least 0 or possibly Gauge 1 - 5cm high is almost an average H0 Lok so I can't see it being H0/00.

Any ideas, Märklin item number if it is genuine (catalogue year)?

Cheers

Cookee

Hi Cookee,

The sign is no Märklin item. But the decal is genuine. It comes from this sheet, which was delivered with 474/4 and 474/8 B. This part of the decal was used often to "märklinise" items. Most irritating when it was placed on cars or locos. I have seen high prices paid for such things.

Yes, It is Hornby meccano Dublo.

There is front stand with mark ' Hornby' and 'Meccano' on it, See Image.

(snip)

No Mark at rear.

Thanks for that Steven, I now wonder why the seller chose to display only the side without the Hornby imprint?

Perhaps the distinction is lost on this trader?

So after querying the description wording, I am now officially a "Toy Cop", and apparently, I rock!

See comments on auction;

FWIW, I don't think this is an original Marklin item, rather it's another brand (perhaps Hornby or similar) with a Märklin label stuck on it - it's still quite neat but is not in any catalogue of the past 70+ years. Good luck all the same :-) cookee_nz (203 ) 4:06 pm, Sun 16 Feb

Cheers, but this item was listed it as a Marklin billboard. I've more to list with HP Sauce, Capstan Cigarettes,Bird's Custard, & like the Marklin billboard they're also made by Hornby. Cheers. 8:24 pm, Sun 16 Feb

All understood, just clarifying for the benefit of others because the title and wording certainly implies it's a Marklin manufactured item, not a Hornby item with a Marklin label, cheers cookee_nz (203 ) 9:09 pm, Sun 16 Feb

Hmmm....bad advertising. Toy cops rock. 11:02 pm, Sun 16 Feb

"Toy Cop?", I like it, must remember that. It's a tough job but someone's gotta do it :-) cookee_nz (203 ) 6:47 am, Mon 17 Feb
