Hi,

"Salz" (engl. "salt") is a misprinting (part of the "t" unreadable). It should be read "Satz" (engl. "set (of three)" in this case). Factory sealed packs from that period are extremely rare. That's what the buyer paid for. Not really for the contents.

Regards

Markus

A type of metric countdown sign indicating Points /signal / trackwork ahead . Occasionally seen in photo's back in the steam days but I think still in use even now.

Cheers , Tom in Oz.

Hi,

The Märklin catalogue 1937 shows how they should be placed on a small layout:

Would it be 300, 200 & 100 meters for each sign from the point in question ?

Tom in Oz.

Hi Tom,

The SIGNALBUCH (signal - book) from 1935 says that in regular use three signs are placed at 100 m, 175 m and 250 meters before the distant - signal. If needed, up to five of these signs can be used or the distances can be varied. The sign with one stripe is placed nearest to the signal.

Regards

Markus

Wow- never would have guessed all this!

Interesting the sealed backs of small things like that are so valuable. I need to go through the "old parts" bin and take a second look at what I've got...

I was watching that auction myself... until things got a little on the expensive side ;) I've got one set I found a few years back, albeit without the original packaging.
