Dan,

See www.autoslaaptrein.nl (also in English).
Autoslaaptrein means "Car sleeping train".
City is called 's Hertogenbosch, also called Den Bosch.
Sleeping trains are operated by EETC,Euro-Express Trein Charter.
They operate two former NS electric locomotives.
EETC 1252 is the ex NS 1225.
EETC 1254 is the ex NS 1214.
After their NS service they ran for ACTS,before going to EETC.
Current colors redbrown with yellow banner.
Note these locomotives were put into service as from 1951!

Cheers,
Paul.

Not Alco.
Designed by Baldwin USA.
Built under license by Werkspoor,Holland.
Electric components by Hemaf,Holland.
Brakes by Westinghouse.
The American design is obvious when you see them.
Fleischmann once issued one in New Haven colors,i do not think there was a prototype for that one.
These locs run on 1,500 volts DC on the Dutch network,as such there will be a loco change at the border.

As understand one of these logos owned buy the motorail company in holland will be the one to have the new Marklin paint jobLove

And I have a nice book of photos Dutch/ German border traffic and it shows both German and Dutch locomotives under wires belonging to the others systems. Do they run on reduced power! Until a border station.

Dutch locomotives of the older generation run on 1,500 volts DC.
At Dutch/German borderstations they uncouple from the train and move away still using 1,500 volts DC.
Thence the isolated overhead wire section is set to 15,000 volts AC,the German standard.
Finally,a German locomotive taking 15,000 volts AC is being coupled to the train.
Needless to say that special safety precautions are in place.
This procedure would be applicable to NS series 1200 and 1600/1700/1800.
Nowadays many multi current electric locomotives (even Swiss!) pass Dutch borders,at a neutral section of wire the voltage is changed, the correct pantograph is raised, and the trip can be continued.
The socalled Betuwelijn to/from Rotterdam port is completely separated from the domestic network and takes 25,000 volts AC.
There is a discussion going on about raising voltage of domestic trains to 3,000 volts DC,a costly affair.

A DC loco will not run on AC power and the other way around, like a Trix DC loco will not run on Marklin AC power.

And this is how it works for Dutch 1,500 volts DC loco's.
The German ICE passes borderstations with pantographs down, socalled Diesel mode, and then switches to correct voltage later on,no need to stop.

Note the Dutch loco is slightly weathered!

The French / Belgium border station is just the same, it does have switchable overhead, but most trains roll to a stop with pantographs down!

I saw this going on at Chiasso Station on the Swiss-Italian border 81/2 years ago prior to the '05 Treff
However the Italian Cisapino's just coasted thru with Panto's down, raised the other one connected to the correct Swiss transformer, and carried on, on the fly ThumpUp
Am I not correct Jaques, Dr Eisenbahn was there too Wink
