This is for Marklin, Anders.

You can start another thread for other makers if you wish.

There are several, I won't be able to buy them all...but here are some potentials.

39950 (VT95.9 + VB140)
37048 (k.W.St.E Class K)
37939 (Ep. II P10)
48816 (DB "Milk Train")
42615 (DB Express Coaches)
37458 (DB BR55)

There may be a few more, but I have to mull it over and of course see the prices when they come out...

For Maerklin, I am interested in the 37348. This is a version of the SBB Re 4/4II that nobody else has made yet.

I am also very interested in the 37446 Re 482. I bought the Trix one (22631) a few years back and was intending to convert it. I think that I will go for the Maerklin version with sound and keep the Trix for the occasional run on my DC tracks.

The other must for me is going to be the 47039 Set. A mix of weathered DB and FS freight cars that will look perfect behind my 37323 weathered SBB Re 10/10 set! I already have the 48807 and the 47352 Sets so this should complete a nice train for that lok set.

I am rather disappointed that Maerklin's new 37547 will be released with destination signs for the "Cisalpin". My first trip on the RAe TEE was in fact the Cisalpin from Gare de Lyon to Lausanne in 1972, but the focus of my collection is on trains in the German part of Switzerland. I would prefer for the trainset to have the classic destination signs for the "Gottardo" or "Ticino" or even better yet, to have interchangeable destination signs so that the modeller can choose which ones he/she wants. I have the same issue with the recently released LSM model. Originally, the deal between LSM and RailTop, who were to produce the model jointly, was that LSM would market the "Cisalpin", "Iris" and "Edelweiss" and RailTop would market the "Gottardo" and "Ticino" for the Swiss market. LSM completed the project on their own, but did not include the two destinations that were originally intended to be marketed by RailTop, leaving customers without the option to have this model.

I'm not sure about the 43672 coaches. I already have the 43670 and 43671 and would be more likely to go for the new models if Maerklin finally got around to adapting the mould to reflect the current model rather than simply painting over windows again. If anybody from Maerklin is reading this, if you fix the model, I might even buy two sets.

As far as International models, I would have liked to see the ICE 1 with the CH packet (2 pantographs per powerhead). I am still waiting for a single Bpmz291 and the 28cm Eurofimas.
I would like to see Maerklin bring out some international (Wascosa/AAE/Hupac) container cars and loks to complete assorted rakes. The BLS Re 486 was a nice start. Hopefully we will see models of the SBB Re 484, but I would also like to see other Traxx (185.5/186), ES64U2 (Taurus) and ES64F4 (189) models that are typically seen on the Gotthard and likely also on the Brenner.

All this being said, I am on the fence when it comes to the RAe TEE, TGV Lyria and other models.

I hope that all of you have found some models that interest you in the new items and that we can all add to our collections and enjoy those items for years to come.

Regards

Mike C

What interesting to me?

37138 DRG Br73
I'd like this, but seem to recall some criticisms here about the running properties of this loco in other guises. I'll need to do some research first on this one.

37287 DRG ET87
This one Looks nice, but another 3-rail manufacturer has one that I've already set my heart on.
Maybe I'll get it if it's still around next year.

37166 KPEV T16.1
46084 KPEV tank car set
I want both of these. I hope my two preferred dealers will have access to them, otherwise I'll miss out.

37939 DRG P10
Another one that, I'd like. I'm trying not to buy locos that I 'already have'.
I have the 39392 already and with the MSRP on this one set at 430, I can't see it being a justifiable purchase.

42767 DRG express
WIN! This is exactly what I was hoping for and will probably buy. Another diner and sleeper are always welcome.
I also like the unusual treatment of the baggage car

Yes, Marklin does make other things, doesn't it?

I like the 18870 Tractor in this year's catalogue.
Sadly, I'm not ever likely to become an insider, so another item that I am excluded from buying.

Märklin has other products than trains, so I suppose the meaning of the topic subject is about things that Märklin announces for 2014 regarding products... Wink

There are a lot of earlier more or less similar Märklin tractors on ebay, but unfortunately they seem collectable and fetch rather high prices...Sad

And your list is quite similar to mine... BigGrin

I'm sure you will find them available on ebay for sale to 'Outsiders'.

I quite like the tractor set, even if only for a potential present for my brother-in-law who very much likes tractors (and model boats). Seems a bit expensive though at 200 euros.

Thankfully not much that appeals to me for this year, only the 37442 E44, and maybe the 55716 Br 218 1 Gauge loco.

I quite like the 26593 coal train with additional wagon set, but think I might pass on it - I already have nearly 50 ore cars, so finding storage room for another 20........Scared

I can't get over the price for the 10891 metal crane - 700 euros - or the price for the CS2 - 849 euros! (can be found on ebay for 499 euros) Scared

I think i would like to get 29463 - "Swiss Rail Service" Digital Mega Starter, if the price is right. Just to get more trains and a Central Station2 ;)

The 26593 also looks like a nice set.

Hi,

Märklin 00797 12 coal freight hopper cars Fad 167 display Love . For extending my two Märklin 46245 sets (together 10 Fad 50 coal cars).

I'm also interested in the DSB wine-red color Nohab and it's 4 coach set... Interesting technic with cardan drive, like in scale 1 diesels. I hope the running charasteristics are good. This new DSB era III Nohab and it's four coaches will look good in the same display case than the "original" 3067 DSB Nohab and it's 4045.1 DSB coaches. I have four 4045.1 coaches and two new repro 00766 DSB versions.

Cheers,

Brilliant catalog! If I didn't limit myself to SBB/FS models I'd be in serious trouble with some of the early German models...

For me here is the potential list. Pricing may have influence on my decisions though.

SBB Green Crocodile
Possible the Stuttgart-Zurich SBB IC car set (i have these cars, but am particularly fond of that exact train set as I've ridden it. Same for the RE 4/4 but I just don't need a fourth (!) one of these in red...
Italian 47039 Car Set For sure

The super chief is MASSIVELY tempting, but I know price will prevent that purchase...

Well, there are so many SUPER new items. I haven't really even looked in detail yet

at the freight or passenger cars.

Ordered already - Insider model - 37870 BR E93 - I love my German crocs and I am definitely

looking forward to this model with its many sounds.

Another definite is the 37600 - BR V60 - Since I'm now digital too I need a shunting Lok like

this with Telex for train make-ups and yard work.

Ok, now the next 4 Loks will probably be narrowed down to two of them.

37442 - BR E44 Electric

39414 - BR 141 Electric - I'm leaning strongly towards this one. Great Lok for Silberlinge

37404 - BR 139 Electric

37576 - BR 103 Electric, This would give me a digital 103 to run. My two oldies 3053 & 3054

are, of course, analogue.

Decisions, decisions! Peter Smile

Hi,
I will buy 37167 SNCF tank engine.
Still to decide on others.

42615 car set seems to be a repeat of the Blau Enzian cars from a few years ago. Maybe I'm wrong.

Having looked through the 2014 New Items catalog only once, I need more time to make up my mind. The tricky thing is to figure out how to prioritize different models.

This year Märklin seems to have gone overboard with new Swedish items, even if they are "variations on older themes" the Dm is two units, where last year's Dm3 was three units. Two different diesels Green Cargo T44 and "half Swedish" MTAS T44 used in the Norwegian iron ore harbour for shunting by the train company of LKAB, the state owned Swedish iron mining company. The there is a model of TÅGAB's Rc2, which is one of the Rc engines that ASEA made for ÖBB in Austria that were later bought and re-imported to Sweden by TÅGAB. Then there are sets of wagons - one with class Mas iron ore wagons and another with covered and open wagons ......

Then when I broaden my horizon a bit to Scandinavia, there are three new design NOHABs, two DSB of Denmark and one from NSB of Norway and being on that topic there are of course also the versions of SNCB/NMBS of Belgium and of CFL of Luxemburg.

And this is even before looking at models from Germany or Austria. There are quite a number of era IV items from DB and many of them marked as "Einmalige Serie" - made in one series in 2014 only - so this year's New Items catalog really requires "putting on the thinking cap" and serious prioritizing. The sensible way would be to state the question: Do I need more models? And of course the answer should logically be: No I don't! Then there is the more emotional question: Do I want more models? And here the answer is: Yes I do!

For me, as a Z Gauge person, the most interesting items are the two locomotives 88627 and 88628, which are a co-operative project with AZL (American Z Line). According to the information these locomotives have a "new powerful motor." I do not understand the difference but I believe that AZL uses a different type of motor from those that Marklin uses.

Another question that I have is when will these new items for 2014 will actually be available? There are still some new items from 2013 that are not yet available. Also the 87299 "Metronom" Bi-Level Car Set carriage set was a new item for 2012 and that is still is still listed as not yet in stock.

Marklin publish a delivery schedule every so often, which covers delivery of items over the next 3 months. The latest one is December 2013.

http://www.maerklin.de/d...iefertermine_preise.html

The first item on that webpage is the delivery schedule, the second item is the current price list.

As another Z Gauge Marklinist I'm disappointed with the list of new items, but my Finance Manager is thrilled. I think the only item(s) i'll be getting is some of the concrete sleepered track. Should make it a relatively inexpensive year for me.

There are many things that I would like to buy this year, I really like the news for Sweden. The two different T44s (37942 and 37943) is more or less a must since I have the two earlier versions. Also, the Dm-loco (article 37756) would be a nice addition to my Dm3 (article 37755) (when the latter arrives from Luleå). And isn't the 47733 just lovely? Smile

Hi all,

I'll have to clear up some reservations before ordering anything at all from Mäklin this year, namely:

1) How could we know for sure that the new retooled Nohabs will not come with the cheap Chinese 3-pole motor and lousy decoders?

2) I totally hate the unsightly new oversized telex couplers on the locomotives. This will, unfortunately, rule out for me the purchase of the long-awaited T16.1, even more so if, like its predecessor, it comes with the cheap Chinese motor and faulty decoder.

3) I got very excited when I saw the F7 Santa Fe consist. However, something that I cannot understand for the life of me is: Why is Märkln using those plastic stickers with the names of the trains for the aluminium coaches now? They did it on the Blue Bird and again on the Montreal Limited. Will they do this again on this Santa Fe? Before, the names of the trains were painted on the car's surface, just like the prototype. Now, the models look really cheap with that plastic sticker, which comes off with time.

4) I would've considered the new Gottardo, but fearing the worst now about its new motor and decoder, I will do wisely to stay away from it.

The way forward for me this year will be to not place any pre-orders, but rather wait and see what the reviews and comments reveal on the above-mentioned models.

In summary, while I am excited about the new models this year, especially about the Nohabs, I am gravely concerned about the direction that Märklin is taking at this time.

Cheers!
Best regards,
Armando García

Hi Kimball,

I can already imagine it snaking its way through our Mittelstadt HauptbahnhofLove

You do realise that in 1955 the ATSF made a bid for DB, but it was blocked politically.
That is my story, and justification to import US railroad technology to Germany (for trials of course).

thanks Armando,

It is my main concern me too.
What will be those new motorisations...Will it be again the cheapest ones only ?
... Or the most seriously built , the most reliable, the most efficient, among the best ones ?

Ray is right, we don't know anything about new motors
I would like to know what Marklin is selling if they want me to be a buyer...

I am very interested in the new DBS Nohab and coachesBigGrin

Looks great but will wait for some reviews.

The smaller size coaches looks much better on my smaller layout rather than the prototypical long coaches.

Interesting with many new MfX+ loco. Maybe I should try one…

Hi all!

My personal feeling, is that of the new items on this catalog are more of the same, except 3-4 items that really catch my eye. I find much more diversity on the Roco catalog (even if we only take into account the AC models) in comparison to the Marklin one. I love Marklin, but I consider the brand a little bit repetitive aesthetically speaking. That said I really like the 29255 starter set.

Regards!

Miguel

Hi guys,

I am Rahman from Kuala Lumpur. Sorry for posting my introduction and my wish list here, not sure if it is appropriate.

By the way, i started the hobby 2 years ago. My first set was the ICE 2 Starter set. Slowly building up my collection as the exchange rates here are very high. Some of the normal locos price are more than average Joe working at McDonalds for a month in Malaysia.

Has been reading this forum since then. Thank you very much for your endless postings to the forum. I have learned a lot from all of you. Keep it up.

BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

By the way, I am interested to get both of the new Mega Set. Any idea when they are available? Confused

Thank you.

Hi Rahman,

Welcome to the forum.

The delivery dates will be posted on the Marklin website soon. Look here:

http://www.maerklin.com/...loads/deliverydates.html

At the moment it's still showing the 2013 items, but that should change before the end of the month.

RRP is 1199.95 euros, but I would expect the street price to be less than that.

For this RRP the street price will be about 900,00.I will leave the set for others.

I bet on a minimum "street price" of 1000 E for this one .... maybe more.
This price should make quite a few people think twice before buying...

2014, I bet on shorter runs . Shorter than usual.
Dealers will order and should not often have opportunities for restock & adjustments....
We'll see.

Hi Rahman,

Mega starter sets very often get broken up into their various parts by dealers if they haven't sold them straight away, so you might find it hard to find older ones.

Good luck, and let us know what you find.

My Interests are ;

39008 01
39950 Rail Bus
37870 E93 & maybe the freight sets
48816 Milk Train Huh
As from about age 8, the Lionel Santa Fe Train set, of a class mate, an American who's Father worked for "Atlantic Oil" (Mobil) in Wellington, NZ, impressed me so much I, have always had a bit of a soft spot for them. It even had a horn for goodness sake !!Blushing So from then on I thought MRR was "cool" ThumpUp
Fortunately another class mate's Brother and Father were bulding a Marklin M Track layout, with electric points, mountains and tunnells and pine trees, now that was cool ThumpUp
My eventual Traing Hornby Setup was a poor cousin ThumbDown and after a short time, at age 10, I traded it for Marklin Wink
I had seen the various recent Blue Set offerings from Marklin come along and thought, if they do a Santa Fe Set I'd buy it.
Trouble is I imagined it with PA1 Locos, not F7's, even tho F7s are prolly more correct, but at the price it would have to a no for me, But........
If it were offered heavily discounted I might reconsider, just as a novelty you must understand Wink (seeing that I modell De)

Edit;
37150 52 ( well Ive only got the Condense tender model & no bathtub tenders at all Huh )
37923 41 (and I've only got the oil tender example Blushing )
Now if I can possibly refrain from buying earlier delta/digital models for upgrades on ebay this year, maybe I can add these two and even the Super Chief, but can I ???Unsure Crying
Then there's the CS2 and boosters to be obtained Scared

The new items catalogue seems more extensive than previous years. My interest is in the following:

18970 Steam tractors - looks good and could be the centre-piece of a diorama on my layout
37545 Borsig 3 I have the first 2 so am sort of committed
37568 Crocodile - not sure whether this is a double set again as the prototype description mentions both an early brown and a later green version. Confused Confused If so this will not be on my list as it will be too expensive and I purchased the 2013 double set
37738 LINT puppet theatre version - My wife likes the bright colours on this item
37863 Diesel 363 switching loco. Can any one advise what the "switching function" does? Is it a small movement of the loco away from the coaches while the telex coupler is lifted?
45099 Auto transport set
48114 Museum car set

37564 Blue crocodile

Having just retired, and with a very weak exchange rate, this list may need some pruning before I finally commit. There will doubtless be other items to tempt us during the course of the year so I need to have some reserves if needed.

Mike
Digital - C track with CS2 and Railroad&Co TrainController; feedback using LocoIO via a Locobuffer
Analog - M track with solid centre rail (after C track layout is complete)

Mike,

My guess it it put the loco in "shunting mode". It basically slows down the speed of the loco and and gives you more fine control of speed. If this is the case, it doesn't move the loco or control the telex in any way, although driving slowly with finer control does make it easier.

I'm still not clear on what to prioritze (see also post #17) and what to skip, but so far I have identified some loks that I'll order:

37419 TÅGAB class Rc2 - this is a model of one of the nine ÖBB 1043s that were re-imported to Sweden. The ÖBB 1043 was built by ASEA in Sweden and based on the SJ class Rc2, but with some modifications. Originally ten were built in two series 01 - 04 and 05 -10, but one of them was scrapped after an accident in a workshop in Austria, thus there were only nine left.

37756 SJ class Dm - an iron ore lok built by ASEA.

37943 Green Cargo class T44 - a diesel used for freight trains and shunting. Originally built by NOHAB and Kalmar Verkstad and equipped with a GM 12 cylinder two-stroke diesel engine.

Moving outside of Sweden I'm pretty sure I'll go for at least one of the new NOHABs, but the questions which? If I go for only one, then it would be a Danish DSB class My and I like the older livery best (39670), but I have more passenger coaches that would match then newer livery (39674).

From Germany:

37406 DB class 139 - a freight train lok green livery.

37853 DB class 150 - a freight train lok green livery.

Coaches and wagons:

46732 SJ Mas iron ore wagons. This set with six wagons is the only set I have decided on ordering (so far).

Then there is the possibly list:

37942 MTAS class T44 - It is the same class as the GC T44 and belongs to the railway company of LKAB.

37105 DB class 01.10 - Steam engine with oil burners.

37442 DB class E44 - electric lok - for use with passenger and freight trains.

Then the remaining four NOHABs from DSB, NSB, SNCB/NMBS and CFL.

If I get the 39673 from CFL, then the coach set 43813 could as well "be on my ordering form".

Then if you allow me to go a bit Off Topic:

Roco has in their new items brochure three passenger coach sets, 64145, 64146 and 64147 and sleeping car 64849 that all are meant for the "Sassnitz Express" linking Malmö in Sweden, via what was the GDR to München.
- The first set has three passenger coaches of the Deutsche Reichsbahn, DR, one of them with a luggage compartment.
- The second set a couchette coach of DR and a sleeping coach of Mitropa.
- The third set is described as being a passenger coach BM 232 of the DR, but in my mind the picture shows a DB coach and a sleeping coach of Mitropa.
- Then an additional sleeping coach of Mitropa.

A train made up of these sets (or a subset of them) could be pulled by an SJ class Rc (e.g. Märklin 37418) from Malmö to Trelleborg ferry terminal and for instance by a DR 132 "Ludmilla" (Märklin 36428) or a DR steam engine (e.g. Roco 78206 a DR class 03) from Sassnitz ferry terminal to Berlin. Then from there I guess it could be an electric e.g. DR 243 (Märklin 3743) to Probstzella (station at the intra German border between GDR and the Federal Republic of Germany) and from there a DB 110 or 111 to München.

Coming back on topic: If I'd go for any of these Roco coaches, then the new Ludmilla 36428 would be a candidate for going on the "ordering form".
