I have the KLVM 3090 tank engine, great little runner. I would like to add lights to it in place of the painted ones.

Has anyone done this before or know of a link that would help? Confused

I'm not trying to do anything fancy, just basic lighting. It could be LED or a bulb or fiber optics. I know that space is limited inside.

Thanks in advance,

Gavin

Have a look here for some ideas - regarding the 3029 with a similar conversion on the old site...

Hello Juhan,

Thank you the link, it will give me some ideas to ponder about.

As I am running analog now and will eventually go digital (have the time, just not the funds available. Never seems to be at the same time). I was looking at the Viessmann decoder 5247. According to the information about it, it can run in analog mode.

My thinking is to put this decoder in, as it only replaces the mech. reverse unit and has outputs for lighting that could be used.

Thanks again,

Gavin

All decoders can run in analog mode too, you just have to be careful so you use a "white" transformer (as eg 6647) and not the older blue ones since the reverse spike can harm the decoders.

I think the Viessmann 5247 looks a bit expensive...
Maybe better to look at the märklin motor replacement kits (60943) & an ESU LokPilot or Märklin mLD decoder for about the same price and get better performance...
