*** If you click on the ebay posting you can then view the original photos and discription. Sorry for the extra step.

*** Also, just being creative with the poll. Please do not take offense to the questions as I have found an appreciation for every Maerklin piece.

I have not found much on this locomotive. Anyone own it, viewed it in person or have thoughts on its overall value? What range should it sell for or be purchased for? Is it unique enough as a special issue or in this seperate color for extra value or is it on par or perhaps less than a regular issue counterpart?

I am not looking to make a transaction. I am interested to learn and I found this one while searching and had not seen it before nor found much in the way of information on this specific item. Because of the price point, I have also gone back and forth on whether to instead purchase a red version as originally intended or purchase this one as I may not see it available often. The red version will be a future purchase regardless. Probably the black as well!

Regards,

Tim

The loco was issued for the 2002 MHI convention. It's just a fantasy livery.
Every MHI dealer got two of them.

Recent sales on eBay.de were:
EUR 152,60
EUR 100,00
EUR 142,00
EUR 150,00
EUR 129,05
Regards
Tom

Personally I would skip this one. Yes, it is a fantasy livery. That does not bother me too much. In this case it is not associated with a railroad (DB, DR, etc), it's got the MHI logo on it. When it comes to fantasy liveries, at least IMHO, they should look interesting if you're going to go with it :) This was a fairly old tooling at the time. There is nothing wrong with old tooling in itself, but I think over the years more interesting liveries have been made in this same tooling. The red and black ones from the 70s/80s are great (3089 and 3094 respectively) , and I like the 3489/3789 blue livery from 1994 (easy for me to say, I have 3489!).

Those who like to collect Marklin special editions may vary in opinion, everyone has their own thing.

Edit: I want to make clear this is just my opinion, I would this loco does not fit my style of collection. It is a great lok in it's own right, I am sure those who have it enjoy it greatly.

I voted more, but probably would have voted just right, if it had been a choice. It seems like here the States streamlined BR 03.10 locomotives usually fetch more money than in Europe and my Koll's has it listed at a higher price than what they seem to be selling for currently.

I have the 3489 too, upgraded with the mLD/5*, one of our favorites. I am not a big fan of the specials, though I would not mind getting another one in black or red one someday...

btw, the same seller is offering this: 3391

I have the Delta version which I have converted to 5 star digital.

Because of the Gray color, it looks OK running in Era II.

Thank you all for your opinions and help. I have found that I do appreciate this model, although, at that price point there are a number of great options out there on the secondary marketplace.

I am still learning about the collectors side (Actually, all sides of Marklin!) so I did want some input regarding this particular model in that regard.

Cheers,

Tim

I have this model, bought when it first came out in 2002.

Because of the numbering and MHI lettering it is a fantasy livery, but maybe one existed in photo grey when they were outshopped new.

I happen to like steam locos in photo grey and have a few!

In terms of features it is a DCM motor with FX decoder and has the option of fitting a 7226 smoke unit. Other than that just headlights, but I like it!
