Hi I have a 1970 0-6-0 1 gauge loco. It was working fine, except my daughter's hair got all wound around the wheels and gears (loose hair, I didn't have to chop it off).

In any event I took it apart to clean out all the hair which I did. I was careful not to mess around with anything but after putting the body back on, I would got 2 feet and stop with the lights bright like I was changing directions....If I flipped the transformer to the left, it blinks and runs in reverse at least 10 feet with no issue. 'Blink" it again and not much forward motion.

I took the cover back off and see it switch polarity when I 'blink' it, but as it moves forward, the two pieces move out of position and the engine stops like it is shorted.

Any advice or ideas? It the switch done? If so where would I find one?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

If the reverser-unit is not connected to the motor it shows the behaviour described. You should find a loose cable anywhere between the reverser and the motor.

I would also check the reverse unit spring and the adjustment of it, somehow this seems more likely from your symptoms
