At this price will it be a hobby loco with sound or new toolingConfused I would like new tooling. The hobby one is ok for just over 120euros but not any more. Still it's a nice paint jobDrool

Stephen's list of might-be 2014 includes two TRAXX locos with the Trix tooling and plastic body.

But judging from the number I expect this dwarf to be the old Märklin metal hobby tooling.

I would be tempted by Bond and Moneypenny, but I'm not interested in Sleepy.

I thought the same! I do hope that Marklin wake up and produce some up to date modern detailed locomotives. If they don't I will end up buying another make. There's only so many 70s and 80s era locos I want! What's happened to 2014!Confused they make a TGV and Thalys but no freight locomotives apart from hobby range ones which are ok, but it would be nice to have detailed ones And that concludes my ranting for 2013LOL have a good new year forumBigGrin

The 36613 is based on the MHI version 36617 of Märklin's Hobby TRAXX and that was a new item last year (2013). 36613 comes with the Swedish railway crossing bell sound.

In my mind this generation of TRAXX (36613 and 36617) is an improved version of the Hobby loks - I have both the 36617 and some of the earlier ones, for instance 36602 Hector Rail class 241 and 36610 Green Cargo class Re (to name two of the more than ten I have).

Hi don't get me roung. The hobby loks are nice and I have two myself. I may even have the ECR 36616 model. It's not super detailed but it's still ok as it has a metal bodyBigGrin plus it's running quality is very good indeed. It even runs around radius 1 K track!

White and red LEDs instead of yellow, mfx instead of fx. I think there are no other improvements.

Then there is the factory mounted sound.

For other TRAXX models you have to get sound decoders 60949 for electric or 60948 for diesel loks at an RRP of €99:99. This means that for instance a 36600 at € 129:95 would with sound be at 229:94. Compared to a 36617 at € 179:95.

This Swedish model made in only 499 copies is a bit more expensive since the tool costs for the printing is only distributed between the 499 loks, and how many 36617 are made? If it is 5,000 then the costs of the printing tools (which I believe are simpler for 36617 compared to 36613) would be one tenth (or less) per lok of that for a 36613.

A 36613 at SEK 2,245:- would be approximately € 250:- at an exchange rate of SEK 9 to the €. For those who would consider this lok and live outside the EU, the VAT in Sweden is 25 % (compared to 19 %(?) in Germany) which means you can ask for a VAT reduction of 20 %.
(The same could apply if you have a registered company in the EU with a VAT-registration number. The tricky thing might be for such a buyer to explain to the tax authorities in the buyer’s country why his/her company would need a Märklin model for its business if it isn't a model train seller).

As Jonas points out it arrived yesterday and I picked up mine today!

Rush Rail 185 415-8 "Sleepy", Märklin 36613 (available only from www.trainshop.se ).

Photos of my Märklin engine - not as nice as that by Jonas, but it could add information for those considering ordering this model and do not live in the Stockholm region. Furthermore the photos show the white front lights (LED) and red marker lights (LED) as I wrote about in an earlier posting.

Rush Rail has seven engines of this type and they are is used in timber trains. This link takes you to a map showing the timber train routes in central and southern Sweden. A photo from Rush Rail's Internet photo archive showing a timber train:

Rush Rail foto

Given that the Märklin 36613 won't show up when searching the Märklin database, I hope that I'm excused for showing the same pictures also under "Show us your "Locomotive(s)" purchases - 2014 Edition.".

The inventor of the railroad company RushRail is a big-big fan of the Canadian rock group "Rush" and you who knows the history of Rush, can see the similarity with some of the albums.Cool

Thanks, Jonas for the marvelous picture!Love
