I want to use my old Maxi set, track and switches on a porch that gets wet from rain(in Florida-no snow). Is the track and switches suitable for outdoors. The transformer and power supply will be kept indoors and the trains out when used. Is the track stainless or regular steel?
Thank you,
Bill Aronis

Marklin state that their G1 track is suitable for using outside, but common sense would suggest not to use it when there is moisture around.

I believe the track is stainless steel.

Cool

The track is stainless; but can be attacked by "flying rust". You can polish it of; don't sand or grind.

Just touching the track with a piece of normal iron/steel can cause a spot of rust.

Hi Bill,

Rust is no problem. But don't be surprised when the roadbed changes it's colour and becomes red, even with a touch of pink. But this needs some years. It is not 100% UV - stable. It is no bad idea to cover the tracks when not in use. This reduces also the time to clean the rails.

Regards

Markus
