Hi all:

Received delivery of my 4th Gator (#3335) yesterday. She's beautyful - especially those red trucks look great !!! Together with an E194 (#3300) she's doubleheading my ESSO fuel train now biggrin

Best Regards
John

My gator collection has been growing as well:
39560 SBB Green
39561 SBB Brown
26730 SBB Weathered From Set
Kolls 84701 SBB Brown
3422 Blue and Cream German One (one of my favorite paint schemes)
39221 Sinus DR Croc
They are phenominal locomotives. For performance I would definately recommend any of the sinus ones, but visually, the 3422 is the prettiest.

Hi John,
The kolls croc refers to the Kolls item #. The crocodile is a #3356 that a German dealer named Schweiger had Marklin do like 100 or so of in Brown before Marklin made the factory brown croc #3352. I rarity I came into completely by mistake, but now one of my most treasured items, regardless of its relatively low book value.

Hi all:

Received delivery of my 5th Gator today (oh well, this gonna be an expensive [:I] year, again) - an E194 #39223 (built in 2003, according label). This is my second C-sinus "Cocodrillo", but a few differences to her sister engine E94 #39221 (built in 2001) came up that might be interesting for you.
Well, also this loco was bought brand new from M dealership, and quality of material and workmanship are excellent as usual - it's more the assembling (only a few years later ...)

1. #39221's axles and gears were oiled properly - #39223 was dry as a Martini. Couldn't stand that squealing longer than 3 laps ... [xx(]
2. #39221's pickup shoe was adjusted perfectly well - #39223's Schleifer was badly misaligned. Out of time, too. It added to the noise ... [xx(]
3. #39221's wiring was done neatly - #39223's cables were hanging in the air, somehow ... [xx(]
4. #39221's speaker was taped precisely to midship - #39223's one blocked movement of rearward truck, partially ... [xx(]
5. #39221's chassis clearly reads "Made in Germany" - #39223 ??? gives us a new quiz ... [xx(]

Fine. A few hours (and a little tune-up) later she's humming SUPER SMOOTHLY like her sister - you can even hear that C-sinus, now SmileSmileSmile
Problem is: For US it's no big deal to handle such minor trouble by ourselfes (cos it's fun, too). But the average, perhaps new customer will be extremely dissapointed and shout: "Piece of junk !!!" And never ever buy again ...
I have only one question. Please M, WHERE FOR HEAVENS SAKE DO YA ASSEMBLE YOUR €300 PREMIUM LOCOS - AFRICA, HUH ???!!!

John,

Sorry to hear that your new lok caused a little disappointment out of the box, but glad to hear that you were able to take care of it yourself.

I myself, have never had any issues with Pickup shoes etc on any premium loks,

"Watch, I just jinxed myself"

but what I have noticed is that Marklin does have a tendency to tightly package their products. While this works great protecting the models for their travel to the dealer and then to the end users, it can make taking the lok out of the box a challenge.

When you got it from your dealer, did it look like the model had been taken out of its box before? I am just wondering if maybe your dealer had it on display and when they put it back in the box to ship it to you, maybe they didn’t exercise the proper care?

Just a thought.

Regards,

Frank

Hi Frank Smile: Thank you - I'm glad, too ...

No Sir, dealer is innocent (as always) - by chance I was at his shop when that parcel from Germany arrived, and it was sealed well. We gave her a short test run only to check the functions but never had the idea to remove the body for closer inspection - NOW this will be another point to be checked in the future [}:)] !!!

I have bought 19 brand new locos in 19 months - my first step into the poorhouse [xx(] - but 6 of 'em were for my Grandson and my two Nephews. All of these were packed tightly as you say - no single trouble with the pickup.

No, it's the assembling at the factory - whereever this one may be. Since all of my other Gators are "Made in Germany" and their quality of assembling is just excellent Smile - it comes clear M has made a move to a third world country. Even with some of her premium models.

And surely, my dealer gladly would have fixed this all for me. But once she's on my layout I hate it to wait ... [}:)][}:)][}:)]

Glad you were able to sort out the problems John. It is very disappointing when a new model does not work perfectly out of the box. We are paying a lot of cash for these items and I would have thought they should be tested properly at the factory before despatch.
I presume with the great god profit being in control that would not be possible.
Have fun with the new fellow and introduce him to his other gator pals.
David
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Thank you, David biggrin - he and the other Gators are good friends, already ...
Well, perhaps this should help poor M with their assembling trouble - after all, we're talking about a 2005 regular production item.
There was a time when you could buy the very same loco ready to go or AS A KIT (about 50% rebate). Instead of repairing their junky work I'd gladly buy such loco kits and assemble her by myself in a neat way - beats M's fiddling 40 miles by sunday Cool

Best Regards
John

I only have two lonely crocs (A 3022 E94/194 and a 3356 Be6/8). Maybe they could come up to your house to play with your crocs? Smile. I do have four E103's though, two in TEE livery and two in Orientrot. I'll get them all out one of these days and post a picture. They are 3054 (my very first Marklin lok), 3357, 3358 and 37572 (just acquired).

Great idea, Ron - and perhaps McLae will join us with his gang so the three of us can visit Brooklyn Brewery [:p]! (Wife [}:)] can act as the Gatorsitter in the meantime ...)
