Hi Bertil,
It would be great to see you too on Eurospoor ! ThumpUp

Yes, there will certainly be some Marklin layouts.
But it's the mix of everything what makes Eurospoor so much fun, like the used market, all the layouts, watching all that thousands MRR hobbists sharing the same passion.

I really liked the report of our dear member Tom Jessop from last years Eurospoor event, please allow me to quote Tom.

Bingo, what luck; on the door step for 3 days to Eurospoor, with entry to the caravan exhibition included with the overnight price for our Rv. Friday Morning we walked over to Eurospoor to find the doors didnt open untill 10;00 am,'so a cup of tea /coffee & a quick bite to eat before attacking the slowly growing number of old, unwashed retirees who looked to be on their last eurodollar; a couple of gallons of deodorant would not have gone amiss trying to smother the aromas wafting around the lines of eagar buyers. It was an eye opener to me that most were carrying suitcases, carry bags & very large shopping bags from supermarkets & I had no idea what for until when the doors opened right on time, there was a MAD rush towards the rear hall with very few stopping to view the large number of layouts on display. Anyway we decided to follow the aromas & found down in Hall 3 that there was so much on sale to this poor ozzy train driver. Almost had heart attack & thought he had gone to the great round house in the sky.

Mention has been made that the amount of stalls was near to 1 Kilometer long but when there is so much to see & haggle over it looks much longer. I found the MAJOR draw back in hall 3 was the poor lighting on most stalls which made it extremly hard to see what was on sale let alone the condition of items. Anyway after walking the length & breath I ended up buying just a few items with the FD also buying 2 items much to my amazement.

Her spending included a complete digital King Luwig set M2680 & 4396 slightly worn boxes but in very good condition. Euro 525 & then she spied a N scale Neuschwanstein castle which had to be brought to go with the set already purchased, for E$55

I purchase a M3600 Digital set of 3 engines for the Berlin Anniversary E$259, A M37703 Digital set of 3 early Diesels for E$ 455 & a ROCO 78524 Swedish Eloc for E$ 419 with sound etc, a couple of different waggons for E$20 each finished off my spending for the 2 days we spent there. Sunday we spent in the Caravan / camping show just looking & wondering why we dont some of the items on display back home in Oz'.

A WORD OF WARNING FOR OVERSEAS TRAVELLERS. From what we saw, none of the 2nd hand stalls had VAT exempt forms for refund of sales tax; it was a all cash buisness.
The ATM at the hall entrance would only allow a single withdrawl per card of E$500 each day but this could also depend on what cards were being used & it ran out of money early Saturday leaving a fair walk back to the main station to find another machine.

WE would recomend that anyone thinking of going to Europe at the end of October next year definetly consider a trip to EUROSPOOR just to see the amount of M & other brands on sale. It is amazing considering the age of some items that they have remained in pristine condition all these years considering that they have survived a war period etc.

Eurospoor should be on everyones bucket list to do at some stage of their life, Our expectations were exceeded in every way. Knowing what I do now about Eurospoor I will be better prepared for any future visits we will make to Europe in the future. I was going to attend the 2013 M show at Goppingen but we have just purchased a new million dollar house [well it feels like it ] so have had to readjust focus from holidays to building a new layout in a decent size room of 10 meters x 7 meters & also put back retirement for another year.

Tom,

I can assure you that most of us in Holland do indeed use deodorant every day, there is no excuse for not using it!
The only excuse i could think of is that some people travel a great distance to get at Eurospoor and perhaps lost their touch of deodorant on the way.
I have been to Eurospoor several times and my tip for all visitors is to ignore the initial rush when the gates open up,there is plenty to buy for everyone, even on the last opening day, there is no need to join the stampede!
Just go there say 1 hour beyond opening time and you walk straight in without waiting,no need to smell unpleasant smells.
As Marco has outlined so brilliantly there is so much for sale, new and used,Maerklin and other brandnames, that there will be more than you can afford to buy in 3 days,so relax and enter the halls around noon time.
The cash limit of the money machines is an universal thing in Holland, and indeed the sellers of used stuff only accept cash without VAT return, whereas some of the sellers of new stuff accept PIN automated payment if they have the machine!
See it as a measure of selfcontrol:by this way you save some money for the next time, and Holland is always worth a visit!

Deodorant: be careful with an overdosis,it may distract you from your mission: buying trains!

Tot ziens!

And in case Eurospoor does not fit into your agenda, you may wish to consider a very good alternative called Modelspoorbeurs in a building called Euretco located at Houten, near Utrecht.
The event at Houten is almost monthly.
Parking is free and entrancefee is only Euro 7.-.
The only difference with Eurospoor is that Houten does not have room for the layouts, apart from that you find the same traders of used stuff there.
The amount of visitors at Houten is amazing, always good to see that i am not the only pleasantly insane!
In case you come by car please come early, parkingspace in front of the building is popular!
There will be parkingguidance by volunteers anyway.

http://www.modelspoorbeurs.nl/

Dates 2013: 31 August/05 October/09 November/14 December.
Dates 2014: 18 January/29 March/03 May/05 July/30 August/04 October/08 November/13 December.

At Eurospoor Sunday 27 October will be promoted as a special family day with a reduced entrance fee for a family, I guess this wil generate even more visitors than in previous years.

Wondering if I should start a wish list & send it express mail to arrive just before the doors open . Of course I would include my bank details & home address so that any purchases would not leave anyone out of pocket.

For over 10 years Eurospoor has its own free magazine 'Eurospoor express' (three issues a year) with MRR news and articles about the layouts that are attending the Eurospoor event. Unfortunately the Mag is only in Dutch, but I hope that there will be an English version in the future too.

It should say the 21st edition and not 21th edition.. Blushing

It goes:

20th (twentieth)
21st (twenty-first)
22nd (twenty-second)
23rd (twenty-third)

I am not sure that the word "edition" is correctly used - it tends to be used for publications.. Perhaps year might be better?

MMMMMMMMMMMM just received a email from Etihad airlines giving a special price ex Sydney to AMS of $1253 Au for travel between Oct 1 to Nov 30 2013 . Now to see what I can arrange with work for time off & then convince the FD that there IS precious cargo to be obtained & imported to Australia , but I'm thinking I may be pushing my luck for this year & it will be 2015 before the next trip.

Cheers Tom in Oz .

Hi Marco,

I think Glenn and I will be together all day on Friday, so his phone number is the best way to contact us. I am on the Hull-Rotterdam ferry tomorrow night, and we should be at Eurospoor when it opens if the ferry is on time.

Best wishes,

Would love to see photos of you guys all at the show!
We should have Musers.org or Marklin-users.net T-shirts ...or perhaps a more humble pin.
That way other forum "watchers" could identify us at shows.

Hi Mark,

You definitely get to see some photo's of the Eurospoor event.
Last year I had uploaded 120 photos.
My health is not as good as it was last year but I hope to do al least 50 or 60 photo's.
The M-users T-shirt is a very good idea, but I don't have enough time till the show to realize that.

Just came back from Eurospoor at Utrecht,The Netherlands.
What a yearly feast it is!
I saw so many items for my future wishlist that i lost counting.
As a precaution i only took 150 Euro's cash with me,and a small list of targets.
Well, this is what i took home this time:
A very good looking set of Rio Grande F7 units for Euro 110 total (asking price was 130 Euro's),boxes show M numbers 3062 and 4062.
The 48150 Jahreswagen 2006,a reefercar in the colors of Migros, the leading Swiss supermarketchain, the car has very fine printing, for only 15 Euro's.
A Maerklin metal bridge sixties style for only 20 Euro's.

I noticed that the latest edition of tinplate USA boxcars were on sale for some 40 Euro's each, for those who cannot afford to buy the complete set in one go.
Many many tinplate coaches on sale, also the new remakes in green boxes.
Also many individual freightcars from the sixties till present time, prices roughly from 15 Euro's onwards.
A complete M Keizer Wilhelm trainset,loco plus 6 coaches,for total 700 Euro's.
Too much to mention really.
I need to go back next year!

I just got home from Eurospoor, was there with my two boys from 10 to 17:00 and shot lots of photos (200) and videos (45 minutes) that I must sort out before I upload those here tomorrow.

Remarkably the 2nd hand market was reduced by half compared to last year and the whole event was somewhat smaller too, 2 big halls instead of the 3 last year.

We had a great day although it was disappointing that I could not meet up with Glenn and Nigel,
I was easily recognizable, I was the only one eyed guy....
I called and texted Glenn all day and voicemail too, but no response.

Brief update on our Eurospoor adventure; this is my first trip to Eurospoor and what can I say, if you are a fan of Marklin this is the place for you. If you don't like spending money this is not the place for you!!!!!!

Brenden and I arrived on Thursday night via Rotterdam and the Hague, with visits to mini Rotterdam world (HO & N) layout and Maruodam, (G scale layout). Friday morning met up with Nigel and his wife and went straight to Eurospoor's first day. As this was the first day we focused on the second hand market section, and although I understand it is smaller than last year, it is one massive exhibition hall full of second hand traders selling mostly Marklin and Roco, with a few Fleishman and other brand items. Prices are mostly discounted to attract sales and bargaining is welcome, some sellers will even discount items without prompting.

In addition there are sellers selling Faller, Kibri and Vollmer kits, sellers selling spare parts, lights, scenery items, and premade loads for all your various gondola cars and the like, if they make it for European trains and layouts then it is almost certainly here on display and for sale somewhere.

Suffice to say my whole budget was gone in an hour and I was looking for an ATM!!!!!!!!

Having been in the show about an hour by some miracle bumped into Dan the Marklinman and friend (Sorry Dan I have forgotten his name already), and arranged to meet up later for a chat. I hope you both got back safe and sound on the plane.

We eventually left about 15 minutes before closing time and staggered back to the hotel. Nigel had arranged a great evening meal at a Japanese Teppenyaki restaurant in Utrecht, which is a great little city.

Today we spent the morning as guests of the local Marklin shop, only to find that the Roco/Fleischman dealer is across the road....................such great Dutch planning.

Back at Eurospoor tomorrow, and hope to grab some pictures of the layouts on display to post hear, although having spoken to Marco this evening he seems to have photographed most things and so I look forward to reading his thoughts and looking at his pictures.

I know it is a cliché, but if you have never been, I can definitely highly recommend a trip here, you will not be disappointed.

BR

Glenn

PS: I know there is an American layout at the show, which has a working conveyor system for filling the hopper cars with coal from the mine, so will try and get some video of this one.

So lets start my Eurospoor 2013 photo report !!

Today we left early on our way to Eurospoor, for us a 40 minute train ride from Den Haag to Utrecht.
My boys still had a bit of a jet-lag, they just returned from their holidays in Turkey
Of course we didn’t forget our free VIP tickets.

At the entrance of the event are a few tables with free promo magazines, flyers and calendars and such, which are in great demand of the visitors.

Once inside one of the first layouts that drew my attention was from the German Trix Express Stammtisch.
They displayed three very nice old skool Trix Express layouts with working Faller AMS !!
I was delighted !
I talked AMS for 15 minutes with the Trix guys.

Does anyone have the dates for 2014? I will need to book those as vacation right away to have any hope of going.
It looks fantastic. I am saving my euros!

Dreadnought , if you can hang out till the 2015 Eurospoor you could combine the "M"treff / IMA show , have a couple of weeks touring round Germany visiting many live steam tourist railways etc then end up at Eurospoor which is usually held at the end of October. I'm not sure how many holidays you can accumulate in Canada , down here in Oz I get 5 weeks annual holidays each year being a shift worker [ office workers only get 4 weeks ] & can pass them over to the following year so that I would have 10 weeks to play with. This my plan for 2015 at the present time but I may be retired by then so wont have to worry about the holiday part .

Regards
Tom in Oz.

There were around 60 layouts displayed.

And as I said before, even some classic Trix Express.

What I missed was a classic 1960-70 oldskool Marklin M track layout, so I hope Mike can fill that gap next year when he is attending Eurospoor with his lovely M-track layout !

No offense, but like last year, it struck me again that most Eurospoor visitors are 50+ and bald or have a bit of a fat belly or unwashed greasy hair.

Although I'm beginning to develop a a little belly myself too ...

My boys make fun and jokes all the time about the photos.
They say that the retiree guy on the right behind me on the bench, looks like he is choking in a piece of bread.

The 2nd hand market was very large, but not as big as last year.
You can find almost all MRR brands, but most Marklin and Roco.

And I spotted even some 1960's Faller AMS !!!

But way overpriced. € 99,95 for a shoe box AMS track parts ??
The lady didn't want to negotiate the price, so a no for me.

And I saw some slot stuff too.
