Hi,

Unfortunately it will probably be difficult for me to go there. I am sure it will be very interesting.
Maybe the title in English only or in both Portuguese and English targets better.

Best regards,
Miguel

Hi,
Interesting news - FREE and sponsored by a hobby shop, and at least 2 manufacturers from the peninsula.
It seems that the hobby is quite buoyant there.

And they even give the latitude and longitude so you cannot possibly miss the place.

Kimball

Good evening,

I just received the floor plan. Considering individual modules, I counted 20+ private exhibitors: An entire floor of the building will be occupied.

Address of the venue:

Palácio do Egipto - Oeiras
Rua Dr Neves Elyseu
N38º 41'31" W9º18'41"

open June 15 & 16 (12 h -18 h)

Good evening,
The photos reflect the situation just after the opening, when visitors started pouring in. Therefore it looks like there are not too many people around. Actually it got pretty crowded lateron. However, then I was too busy for photos since I had to attend my layout (to be seen on the lower side of the second pic)... There were several compact layouts on display, plus dioramas, club modules and a club layout. The club layout is covered in the subsequent posting. Besides HO scale, two N scale layouts and one "Spur 1" diorama were present.

I have been there myself yesterday. Great exhibition ThumpUp

It was really crowded in the afternoon with people of all ages. Some of the attendees may become train enthusiasts in the future Smile

"EXPOSIÇÃO DE MODELISMO FERROVIÁRIO " re-loaded after the success two years ago.

On June 6 and 7 there will be the 2015 Portuguese model railroad exhibition in the "Palácio do Egipto" in the historic centre of the town of Oeiras (next to the main church "Igreja Matriz") in the western outskirts of Lisbon, Portugal.

Anything related to MRR models, modules and/or layouts may be displayed. Inter alia, my small Thunder Mountain layout will be present.

No admission fee.

Hi Ak,

Just saw this thread for the first time. Love seeing the Portuguese buildings in that layout.
I am guessing they were scratch-built. Do you know of any kits available of Portuguese stations...
[Did I ask you that before...?] Told my wife to be on the look out for any Portuguese model railroad material while on her recent visit to her family last month.
...my 5 year old daughter did manage to find a trolley keychain for me. Wink

Hi Mark,

Was that photo taken in Portugal? Well, to the best of my knowledge, you did not ask before. "Maketforyou" makes scale models of Portuguese buildings. "Comboioselectricos" in Oeiras has some in stock: http://comboioselectricos.com/ They ship overseas and offer Paypal service.

Hi Ak,

Thanks for the information and the links. You've got me searching through http://comboioselectricos.com/
You might get me to make a small Portuguese diorama to enlarge my Euro train film project...
If you see any links of MMR work involving historical stations there let me know.
They are brilliant!

Re: the photo ...OT... sorry...
I posted the photo wondering just how "westernmost" are you....?
My wife was thrilled to go up the 'farol' for the first time last month and talk to the 'faroleiro" with two of my girls.
ah... I have "saudades"... especially of the Lisbon to Cascais rail line, (Linha da Cascais). Particularly on stormy days when the water from the waves would occasionally splash the train... or so it seemed.

Enjoy the show and if you can please post photos, especially of the Portuguese models we don't otherwise get to see.
- Mark

ps. I have a bunch of photos from the outdoors part of the Rail Museum at Entroncamento which I should post.
Of course, I'd have to dig them up.

Looking good!
If you have time, would love to see some detail shots!

Like seeing the unmistakable the azulejos (blue Portuguese tiles) on the Palácio do Egipto,
and of course the Marklin poster on the back wall. Smile

Enjoy your weekend!

Hi Mark,

The Maquetren modular HO scale layout sports plenty of Portuguese structures. Here are some impressions.

OOps AK,

Seems you have posted five identical images by accident.
I think you can change that in edit.

BTW... A bit OT but perhaps you or someone else interested in this thread has information.
I am somewhat heartbroken this morning to hear from my wife today that the Museu de Brinquedo in Sintra closed last year (Toy Museum). She was planning to go with two of my girls while there but found out the bad news. Instead just another souvenir shop. They had an amazing variety in their collection including genuine toy building, plane, car, doll, game antiques as well as many Marklin locomotives but closed due to lack of funding.
We used to go there often when went on walks to the Villa.
Do you have any idea what happened to the collection?

Some photos on tripadvisor.
http://www.tripadvisor.c...District_.html#107341832

I should have some good photos from around 2009 on my last visit there, which I will look for.

Hope the show is going well.

Yes, I tried to work on location, and as every pic uploaded from my mobile device is labelled "image" without specific numbering, I created a dedicated post per image, but somehow this went awfully wrong. Anyway fixed now.

Great to see there are active modelers in Portugal.
Those clean white stucco stations in small towns are so nostalgic for me.
My wife and I would often take the train and randomly stop at tiny "wayside stations" to go for walks in the small towns.
Amazing what we find in terms of the architecture and oddities and those we'd meet on our walks in the rural towns.

btw In this photo, I know its a German layout though, I find it clever how they put the trees in front of the urban background to create visual distance that fits more naturally.

Thanks again for the great posts Ak!

Hello Ak,

Thanks for the interesting newsletter, although my Portuguese was not quite up to each article I was very pleased to find that the photos were all in English.
On page 60, Maqueta “Montanha” did seem familiar, and I particularly liked the spatial economy of “Nowhereville”
The mob on pp 74-75 look like they could also whip up a layout in no time - get onto it!
