Was that a sign for Marklin days in episode 59 on the stand wall? It looked like September 13-15.

Thanks. I hardly ever look at the German site, not reading German. The US site is a disaster that looks like someone design it in the 1980's and never changed it. I missed the link here.

I am booking flights and hotel for the Marlin treff in September. Are the members of this forum planning to meet? I would love to meet some of the famous Marlinists of this forum. Perhaps we might at least meet for dinner, or at least a beer.

I'll be there from Thursday till saturday with a number of friends.
If enough people we can organize dinner at a local restaurant/brewery.

Hi Guys,

I was hoping to make Märklin days this year, but I am also going to Eurospoor, and I am not sure I can do both, and will decide nearer the time.

I think Nigel of the Forum is going along with a couple of other Märklin enthusiasts, and they may want to meet for a beer.

If you go don't forget a little report and some pictures. Oh and have a good time

All the best

Glenn

Well this is my first post here!
I am looking at going to the Marklin Open Day in September.
Is there any one traveling from Sydney, Australia?
I have notice that a Car show will be on in Frankfurt during this time www.iaa.de
So I am thinking of going to have a look at this too!

I was really hoping that there would be some get togethers from forum members.
I am on my way to the Marklin Days at this moment i am in Scotland traveling all over Europe then next week going to Italy and on the way back stopover in Germany before heading back to the USA . I still hope to come in contact with some forum members

Try being on the platform at Goppingen on Saturday about lunch time I think they are meeting up on Gleis 3/4 , look for a group of old codgers speaking English & maybe a few speaking other strange languages up near the western end [Stuttgart ] There may even be a guy wearing a safety vest [Christian Vinaa ] who will be there ,also there is a BBQ at the Stuggart MIST group on Saturday evening . link for yahoo group regarding Treff treffpunkt-M@yahoogroups.com I hope this will work.

Regards Tom in Oz

I have never been to Goppingen, so do not know what to suggest. One idea might be the Insider Club marquee at Staufer Park, about noon Friday? I understand they will have "refreshments". Likely lunch can be had somewhere nearby. It is Germany so beer and food can not be too far away.

The weather forecast for Goppingen is:
  • Friday a bit cold (14 degrees) with some rain (but not much).
  • Saterday sunny and nice weather (20 degrees).
  • Sunday a lot of rain and cold again (15 degrees)

I have read on the website of Ritter they have 20% discount on the Marklin days.

4.2 mm is not really very much. Could be 12 hours of constant light rain or 20 minutes of heavy rain (the forecast I look on does not yet include Sunday). And they cannot predict the next day reliably, so the Sunday forecast may look different on Friday or Saturday.

@Tom, maybe you are right about that 4mm.
In Holland we have daily a lot of rain since the last 5 or 6 days.
Yesterday in the city I live in (The Hague) we had > 100mm within 12 hours, with the result that basements flooded and some streets were under water.

Chance of rain is 40%, 40%, and 80% respectively. So for Friday and Saturday no rain at all is more likely than some rain (according to that forecast).

I love the weather app that comes with Windows 8.x.

It gives the following chances of rain for Göppingen (BW):
Friday: 40%, 80%, 68%
Saturday: 30%, 65%, 34%
Sunday: 50%, 90%, 68%
They use three different sources to give you three different forecasts in one app.

They cannot predict the weather 12 hours ahead for sure. Forecasts 48 through 96 hours ahead are just a gamble.

Hi Tom, yes you're right! They do the same here in the states. They will throw in a

chance of this and that just to cover themselves and with all their fancy gear

they still can't get it right. Too bad if it rains though. I'd love to be there.

Not sure how active the Marklin WebCenter is going to be, but just after midnight on the 1st day an update to the gallery was posted following the couple of "teasers" during the preceeding week.

Lets hope for some more.

I have seen photo's (on a German forum) of some special Marklin items that a visitor purchased yesterday on the Marklin days, like the special freight wagons with vintage catalog print packed in a tinplate box and a Wiking Marklin VW Van and a Brekina Marklin Lorry.

My impressions:

I thought it was a wonderful experience.
This was my first "treff". it will not be my last!

Getting grimy crawling over a 44 class, seeing the Bavarian S 3 up close, and smacking my head getting out of it, are the experiences of a lifetime. Riding behind a 65( ? )Class ( 2-6-2 T) in the "thunder boxes", and getting soot covered were also wonderful experiences. Mind you I needed a shower on getting back to clean the outer man, and a beer to cleanse the inner man.

The Italian Marklin Club M track layout was, for me, the star attraction. I confess to favouring the old style M track layouts. Other critics are free to disagree. I loved the clean simplicity of it, the old locomotives and tin plate coaches.

I saw the new ESU V200. I will pass on comments about it, as I am not knowledgable on detail, except to say that, for my part, white smoke from a diesel is not my thing. They had smoke making 216 class too.

The Marklin layout had some problems. One of the coaches behind the V200 would derail. That seemed to make it stop too early, mis trigger the Thalys, which would the hit the TGV, derailing it. Sadly, it was not Marklin's finest moment. On the plus side they had a very pretty young woman who talked me into assembling a souvenir freight car for 30 Euros. Marklin will never hire me as an assembler, but it was great fun!

I am looking forward to 2015.

I am happy to go to Cologne again.. IMA looked good too..

It is only one of two German cities I was able to visit late last year. Climbed the Dom, visited the Christmas markets and had wild boar for the first time at a beer house (Fruel I think) very close to the cathederal.. We were only there for one night - so I am keen to visit again and spend more time in the city and the surrounding areas.

On Sunday morning we received a great visit

Florian Sieber

As you know Mr. Florian Sieber is the owner and director of Märklin, well, I have got a fantastic impression of Him, and I think that after many years our brand have re-found his Soul, not only a purely economic management, but also a familiar management.

That may be the best news in the last 20 years of Märklin History.
When one sees what wonderful job Simba Dickie has done with the Schuco brand, I think we can only rejoice.
Maybe the key news from this TREFF!

Bad idea (bi-annual event).
Next year it's IMA at Cologne. 2015 it'll be Göppingen again.

Looked as good as it does on the Märklin DVDs

Perhaps I'll be able to make the 2017 one in Göppingen...
Lets assume it starts on the 15th of September (a rough guestimate). That means only 1458 days to go!

After moving houses only 12 weeks ago & getting boxed around the ears for even thinking that I would have time to visit this year, I decided that with better judgement I would be able to convince the FD that maybe a visit in 2015 would be the better outcome but would include a visit back to Eurospoor also. Lo & behold the FD even agreed that it sounded like a good idea as she would be fully mobile again after getting her right knee replaced & full rehab to enable her to be on her feet all day without complaining about pain. Time flys really quickly as I get older & I find it hard to believe that 12 months ago I was in Europe finishing off a river cruise & then visiting numerous rail related places including "M" MiWaLu & Eurospoor.

Bring on 2015 & I hope to be there to meet & enjoy what there is to offer.

Regards ,
Tom in Oz.
