Hi all!

At our recent Germany trip we bought the ESU BR 151 loco and i decided to make a little reveiw of the loco here for you guys to see and hopefully enjoy so here goes :

In my opinion this loco is extremly good, it runs smooth, it has tons of functions and lots of details and goodies in the box.

Physical features :

The loco housing and chassis is full metal

Detailing on loco are a mix of plastic and brass

4 axles powered through cardan shafts and worm gears.

You cun run this loco on 2 rail only by removing the pickup shoe

LokSound V4.0 decoder, There is a power pack system who with a capacitor who holds a charge incase of loosing contact with power for a brief moment so the loco don't stop.

Digital functions :

Digitized original driving noise of a 151
Signal horn
Raise and lower the pantographs
Direction-dependent change of light; Trainborne tip and tail lamp switched off; Shunting lights
Cab, driver's console and engine room lighting
Simulation of sparks when sharp brakes, spark while turning the main switch ; switchable noise in switching over and cornering

Pictures with comments :

The box the model comes in, very nice and durable box

UserPostedImage
Label on the side of the box. With Number of loco and color type.

UserPostedImage
If you lift the lid on the box you will see this, the window for the model and descriptions of features

UserPostedImage
When you remove the outer box you come in to the loco, the label on the picture says "Do not lift the pantographs by hand" So no hand use on these, only digital power BigGrin

UserPostedImage
Remove the next lid and you can lift the model out.

UserPostedImage
This is all the goodies that comes with the loco, extensive spare parts, Extra wheels with gears, slip rings, Diffrent type of plastic parts and brass parts. Upper left is tool for removing the pick up shoe.

UserPostedImage
The model is mounted in this plastic bay with a allen screw underneath so no moving about in the box.

UserPostedImage
Even comes with the allen key BigGrin

UserPostedImage
The model on the track.

UserPostedImage
Under the model, you can see the pick up shoe and other detailing.

UserPostedImage
with light in the engine compartment.

Warm white leds in front.

Red behind.

Video of functions and driving here :

I really hope you enjoyed this little review and maybe it answerd some of your questions regarding this model. I think this is a fantastic model with extensive functions and features.. Can't wait for more models from ESU. Runs great, sounds great!
If you like loco's with lots of digital features then this is a loco for you ThumpUp
ONE thing that was a bit sad with this model is that i actually needed to change the coupler, the coupler installed from factory was catching the centre rail on C track turnouts! But as it has NEM pockets thats not a problem but just a bit wierd for a model of this quality. Just keep that in mind with the BR 151

In single point perspective, where do track lines meet?

Looks very nice and I like the sparks. I don't understand what you mean when you say you can only run it by removing the pick up shoe??
Are the panthographs activated by a piezoelectric motor like Marklin has used in the past for panthographs or is it a different system?
I also like the Norwegian wagons.

Hi Iamnotthecrazyone

Thanks for watching, i saw that now and it should be "You can run this loco 2 rail by only removing the pick up shoe" Glad that you noticed that !

I am not sure what kind of motor that drives the pantographs, havent open the loc housing. But from what i hear when they react to the function it sounds like a servo. Sorry i don't have better answer for you on this.

Thanks for watching ThumpUp ThumpUp
