Spur 1: Maxi and now to 55024 (Berlin commuter set) set: issues

I started with Maerklin some years ago by buying Maxi sets, all of which I run with a 6446 transformer in AC.
I then decided to move deeper into Spur 1 and recently purchased the 55024 Berlin Commuter set.
It arrived, I put it on the tracks, turned on the transformer and --nothing.
I understand the passenger LEDS are run in digital only. So, I have no passenger lights.
I thought the set would run in AC.
Curiously, there are traction tires on one side of the driving wheels. How does the loco get power?
I need some help to understand these issues and to get it running.
Should I go digital and, if so, what is required?
Thanks, Mark

Hi Mark, The loco must be switched to "AC-mode" if you like to run it with your transformer. You must find a small switch as shown on the sketch below: From: Code:http://medienpdb.maerklin.de/product_files/1/pdf/55024_betrieb.pdf Regards Markus
