Hello,
I am a new member from Germany.
Paul ( CCS800KrokHunter3 ) asked me to join this forum, I am already member of the German forum “Alte Modellbahnen”.
I collect Märklin for nearly 70 years, I got my first train set Christmas 1943.
I focus my interest since 15 years on the 700 and 800 series for a simple reason,
I don’t like digital trains ! Due to my age I am not so familiar with digital technic.
I dream of Märklin E 800 LMS and choiced as nickname LMS800.
I know that you are interested to see pictures, today I show you my “private museum” with some pictures of my collection Märklin 1935 – 1956 (period 700 / 800 series)..
This collection is stored in a special room in the basement of my house with constant temperature and humidity.
In the attic of my house I have on 65 square meters my “Märklin playgrounds” with different
layouts, pictures will follow the next days – when you are interested.
Please excuse my English, but I finished school more than 50 years ago……..

Best regards
Wolf ( LMS800 )

I suppose the M museum would be interested in getting some of these wonderful old beauties...

And, welcome to the forum Wolf - it is great to have members with good knowledge about the history, since many of us have not lived with the Märklin models so long...
I believe most "mature" gentlemen among us started in the 50's-60's (1963 myself) so it is very nice to have you aboard in the forum.

I hope you will enjoy your stay here... Smile

Sensational collection. They can almost kidnap me and lock me in there. I like the lot, new and old plus the larger scales but having everything from the early days is something out of a dream.

Welcome to the forum Wolf !

Thanks for sharing these photos of your very extensive early Märklin collection, it's quite amazing ...
... and thanks also to Paul (CCS800KrokHunter3) for inviting you here.

Like you, though you have a considerable head start, I have so far stayed put in the analog world.

As I've only collected these machines since age 7 (1966), I have yet to fully understand the breadth of Märklin's analog production before ever embarking on digital ... maybe some day ^^ *sigh*.

I humbly look forward to your knowledge on this subject, and to your future posts which may carry it forward ...

Welcome to the forum! Beautiful collection... thanks for sharing the photos. I like the older Maerklin items as well, for their simplicity and ease of operation -- no need to program or read an in-depth users manual: just put them on the track and watch them run.

Welcome to the forum Wolf! I was just stunned to see your magnificent collection! Thank you for sharing the pictures. It's very interesting to see the old models as well since I personally do not have any experience with models made before 1985.
Are all models functioning as well? Do you ever run them or are they "shelf trophies"?

Hello,
many thanks for your warm welcome in this forum.
All locos do function, if you would like to see my ST 800 running ( first RED versus Green, later joined by BLUE ST 800), go to "youtube" :

But today I would like to invite you to see my "computer room" (working room ). When I sit in front of my computer and turn around (360 degrees), I see some of my
Märklin items of the "younger generation" (since 1957, past 800 serie).
Enjoy the turn chair ! (But keep in mind: I am an old and sick man, my sicknes is called Märklin !)

Alles Gute,
Mark

English translation:

Honoured to have you with us Wolf.
Wonderful to know you have spent many years enjoying these marvels of model railroading history.

You obviously took great care over the years to keep and conserve your treasures in as pristine a state as possible.
Its a real treat for all of us to see the photos and get an idea of what you have been doing in your collection.

I am sure you have a wealth of knowledge that many collectors and enthusiasts will ask for you to share with us.

I do agree with our esteemed "Webmaster" Juhan, that the Marklin Museum would surely be a good place to contact,
if you are thinking about how to conserve and pass on this legacy.

Best wishes to you and I hope we hear a lot more from you.

Paul,

Just watched Wolf's videos ... quite fascinating !

I notice several different layouts, some with 3600 track from 1935-40 (16 ties) and another with 1947-55 track (24 ties); how many layouts are we looking at here ?

These have spiked my "dormant" interest in two things :
- Old rail cars, they are very very sharp !
- Märklin metal buildings, have a few but need to go back and get more !

Ugh, is collecting ever done ? Or is is it a sickness, as Wolf writes above ^^ ? Woot

Whatever it is, it's overwhelming ...

Yum Tongue

PS: These vids are another example of the strength of layouts with little or no "goop"; wanting to overdo realism often kills the joy of these marvelous toys.

Truly inspirational !!

Your layouts will inspire many members to take the time to plan and build more great vintage layouts.

Well done Wolf.

Hi Neil,

Over this last year I've been buying 1930's (16 sleeper) track, I have enough of the 1935, first year track, with the securing holes to the outside of the rails, for a modest layout.

This will be built when I start my new layout next year.

Although I must say, it will be nothing compared to the fantastic layout's that Wolf is showing us all.

Ian.

It's okay there is not much difference between an original and a replica -- besides the price Cool

In my opinion, whether it is a replica or an original, it is still a beautiful locomotive and both with great craftsmanship. Of course I see the value of an original, but the replicas have a certain quality about them too which can be admired.
