I call it a He, but you never know. I haven´t looked under his/her skirt. But I notice something that hangs that looks like a pick-up shoe. Blink

. I also noted on my old receipts that this version cost about 50 Euros less than the original 37990 and also the 37991!

We better not get into that line David lest Trix owners call us sexist Blushing LOL

Interesting about the cost but I guess we took advantage of pre order discounts in this case, but I would bet the motor is less costly Cursing

Modelleisenbahn-Club Fulda refer to it in their presentation video as a five pole PDMC motor. I sure hope it's not an inferior cheapy, as one of the reasons I ordered this Lok is because the Marklin Big Boy model has been hailed as a "Marklin technological marvel" because of it's drive train, among many other features. Huh

LOL. I have to be careful here. BigGrin

You´re right about the pre-order price. The current price is 30 Euros more for those that are in the store. I have a payment plan. Otherwise I wouldn´t afford it.

I also think the motor is cheaper for Märklin but I think it´s still a very strong motor. But I don´t think Märklin installed a inferior motor.

This is the SK800 that I mentioned that was coming my way. I'm told it's a SK800.9, issued at the time the model changed model numbers to 3007. The loco has SK800 on it, the box has 3007.

I got it for about 200 euros. All it needs is some rubber tyres fitted, and it should be good to go. It came with the original leaflet and box, which has fallen apart at one end, but I guess might be able to be repaired.

Note that the centre drive wheels have no flanges. Supposedly this would help the loco in negotiating the tighter curves.

Ian, the manual has 0357 on it, so I take that to mean that she is 55 years old this month (3 years older than me!)

I fitted some 7152 rubber tyres to the SK800 (originally it used 7149 plastic tyres), put it on the carpetbahn with a transformer connected. It runs like a dream (after a few minutes warmup).

It coupled up straight away to some 28cm plastic coaches with close couplers, and ran with those faultlessly!

Dale, I'll probably leave it as is. The motor looks like it is an early derivative of a LFCM motor, but I don't think any of the conversion parts for a LFCM motor would fit it. ESU are talking about releasing a magnet for some of the Marklin 1 gauge engines, which also fits the 3015 Crocodile, but whether that would work in a SK800 remains to be seen.

You could replace the relay with a 66032 Delta decoder which would allow digital running.

True Ray, but I'm not so sure whether I want to alter/disturb what is otherwise a fairly mint loco (for 55 years old), and maybe end up devaluing it (whatever it is worth on the open market).
