Finally received this Marklin 37905 V294 after waiting since early Jan '12 for it. Owing to an ebay IT malfunction that didn't convey my full address, (country not shown) and the German ebay dealer who knew I was in NZ from other communications, lumped NZ in with Australia and addressed it there. It spent a month over there till some Ocker postie wrote "try NZ" on the box and it arrived on Thursday, along with the 2010 Museum Set (does any one need to see that again ?) and a few pieces of transparent C Track, fortunately all perfect, even the carton was perfect. Smile ThumpUp See ebay thread for more info Wink
Its a nicely detailed Engine with great sounds and even tho not SDS seems to run well ThumpUp Btw Marklin have just shipped a few of these to some German Dealers if anybody is wanting one. I bought it before I knew it was being re released this year. Price was still advantageous tho Wink

Nice one Glen! ThumpUp

I'm holding out for a blue/cream one. I'm keeping an eye on a couple of 37900 examples on ebay, but I was hoping for a new one this year. Sadly (for me) they decided to repeat the "Railion" version instead.

He's still got some left btw Wink

As Ray writes, it should negotiate any curve; while I haven't personally tested with the Märklin industrial circle radius (yet), I know it works on standard and parallel radii ...

In fact, the Mallet articulated design was invented for that very purpose; to negotiate tight curves. These locos are Krokodiles in disguise (Mallet was Swiss ya know ... ) and, be careful, these can be as addictive as Krokodiles to collect (as someone here, Jeremy I think, once said) ! Only difference is that the boiler is in one piece, whereas electric Kroks have articulated front and back bodies as well ... a logical improvement over time.

The Mallet design inspired the US BigBoys too .. plz have an interesting read here on these locos : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mallet_locomotive

What gets me, and by having seen this fascinating article in a Märklin catalog back in 1988, I'll always remember that no one can say if this loco was ever built. So, in this case looks like Märklin modeled a figment of the human imagination : http://www-personal.umich.edu/~khmiska/_derived/Borsig%20Mallet.htm

All the talk about fidelity to prototype goes out the window all of a sudden; I find it quite liberating to think that the best projects are not always built, just conceived and drawn is enough. Same for visionary building designs, and aircraft !

Wow ...

I am now eyeballing the Märklin 3796 ... to complement the 3798 Gt 2 4-4 Mallet I bought in 2011 (see below).
Yes, I'm addicted ^^ LOL

Hope that helps, plz enjoy,

Yum Tongue

Yum,

Wow, thanks for all the info! I do like that blue Bavarian livery for the mallet, handsome model. I bet it's a puller too. I have a couple of places (which can be avoided) on my layout with the industrial radius, so I always ask. :)

So, in this case looks like Märklin modeled a figment of the human imagination : http://www-personal.umich.edu/~khmiska/_derived/Borsig%20Mallet.htm

Yum, Tom (H0) has previously told us that Marklin later retracted that story - there is reference to the retraction in the book published for the 150th anniversary of Marklin's founding. The guy in the factory was never ever able to verify what he saw, most think it was the frame for another loco type, perhaps a class 52 Kreigslok.

I have the class 96 in era III black and red. Great locos they are too!

I remembered the post you mention and looked for it before posting that last comment ... but this site is so big that I couldn't find it at the time, and had to post something ... so I let it go ... if only for awhile ... Wink
Finally found it though : http://www.marklin-users.net/forum/yaf_postsm246443_Need-some-info-about-BR53.aspx#post246443

Thing is ... that photo of the guy in the 1988 catalog, looking at that Borsig, so fascinated me because I thought he was onto something that it took me almost 25 years to finally buy the damn loco ... ThumpUp
Jeez, thanks, gotta check for "96 era III" now ... ^^ LOL

My favourite Br 96 is the 3796 in Era II black and red.

For era III I only know of the 37963 weathered special version. Is there another?

Mostly Marklin.Selection of different eras and European railways
Small C track layout, control by MS2, 100+ trains but run 4-5 at a time.

3796 looks good in Black and red Ray ThumpUp interesting about the Era III one too ThumpUp

However the 3798 in the Blue is kinda sharp Yum Wink ThumpUp looks much nicer in your pic than in Koll's (3498)

I bought the green Era I 37964 back in '06 which looks good with the white pin stripes, Smile but the sounds are quite week ThumbDown

" Every Marklin layout needs a V200, a Railbus and a Banana car", not to mention a few Black and red Steamers, oh and the odd Elok !

CS1 Reloaded, Touch Cab, C Track Modules, K track layout all under construction. Currently Insider

Like the Bombardier AMT 1350DP, this locomotive travelled from Germany to New York and then was shipped up the Hudson Valley where it crossed into Canada and is now sitting on the rails in Montreal.

The new lights and sounds are very nice. Can't wait to see this one pulling my coaches from the Roco 61402 EWIV IC Set or my Roco IC 2000 coaches.

Regards
