Hello Mike,

is it ok if its metric, changing into inches is sometimes a little time consuming ....???

Length of the layout is 3.45 m.
Width is 1.67 m.

Diameters of the inner circles are 110 cm and 120 cm respectively.

The outer circles are the same size, plus 33.9 cm for the inserted two pairs of turn-outs. The difference between 120 + 33.9 cm = 154 cm and the aforementioned 167 cm is due to the extra added station tracks on the right side of the layout.

I hope this helps.

Many regards,

Hans

Dear Steven,

it took me approximately one day to set it up. There are some small tracks that must be inserted when using double turn-outs combinations, and when you have done so you must also insert these parts (called 3900 DE) into all other tracks too.

This was pretty time consuming ....

And some tracks simply don't work, as is the case with some turn-outs. So, I had to replace these.

It is still not perfect. I'm glad though it can stay like this for another couple of days.

Many regards,

Hans

Why would anyone want to do this to exquisit Marklin Track? I don't know, but it can be done if you have this old track.

In the seventies a friend of my father's told me that he had a layout where he could operate Märklin AC models, Trix Express DC models and "normal" DC models. He did not tell me that he did not operate them all at the same time. But having seen the 3900/3800 track, I now know what he was talking about. Being able to supply any one of the three conductors individually, makes operation of either model loco possible. How the different models manage the turnout points is another story. But if you have just one big interlooping "circle" of track without turnouts, you can operate anyone model at a time on the same layout. Just give it its corresponding current "food" and it will run happily.

When we were kids we enjoyed our tinplate trains rattling over tinplate tracks - nowadays they're in need of sound decoders.

SAM_1581.JPGHi, I'm from Belgium and follow this forum quite some time. Collecting Märklin rolling stock for many years , i bought about 2 years ago a set of engines and cars among with a collection of these special tracks not knowing at that time the value of them. I was very lucky the seller also was not aware of the value.ThumpUp

A Modellgleis (Model Track) library has also been added to the new release of the free layout software XTrackCAD, version 4.2.0.
This library (or paremeter file) has the name "mrkholde.xtp" and is located in the parameter folder installed with the software, e.g. under following path on a windows system: "C:\Program Files (x86)\XTrkCAD 4.2.0\share\xtrkcad\params\"

See https://www.marklin-users.net/forum/posts/t33649-XTrackCAD-Free-Layout-Software for the links to the XTrackCAD download.
