Yes, Stephan.
Still announced as of today (German only):
http://www.maerklin.de/d...eff-ima2011/bahnhof.html

Google translation:
http://translate.google....f-ima2011%2Fbahnhof.html

Rumours say she'll have large wind deflectors for the Märklin days (Märklin is said to make a model of her like that), but will return to small wind deflectors later.
That'll be a change over the model #39013 of the same loco, but could make her very similar to the model #39014 (prototype loco 01 118).
Regards

If you go to the Marklin TV page, they list Folge 36 available in German, including a preview picture. If you play the video, however, it seems that they have uploaded an old episode (episode 1?), as I remember having seen they story about the tower clock renovation before.

I'm not a member of the Märklin club, but I'd like to know if you have the option to download Märklin TV if you are a member? I'd like to ahve it on my iPad and TV-set. Belive it or not, but my 2 year old doughter LOVES watching the Modellbahn Impressionen DVD :o) So I'd like some more stuff like that. Is it possible to get a MärklinTV "preview" somewhere?

Hi Martin,
If you are not an Insider member, you can as far as I know, get a preview on the Marklin site. I think you get only a minute or so.

Regards the episode 36, I was quite impressed with the content.
They explained the criteria which elicited quite a lot of controversy in forums - the leading truck on the Insider E17 37061. And they included a very good explanation of how the minimum radius on real railways, of 180m (at walking pace), translates to 2 metres radius in HO. How do you expect a model true in EVERY respect, to negotiate 36cm radius curves on a model train layout? By building compromises.

regards
Kimball
HO Scale - Märklin (ep II-III and VI, C Track, digital) - 2 rail HO (Queensland Australia, UK, USA) - 3 rail OO (English Hornby Dublo) - old clockwork O gauge - Live Steam 90mm (3.1/2 inch) gauge.

They say that customers complained about the diameter of the running wheels and explain that the diameter is prototypically correct. I haven't heard any complaint about that.
But customers do complain about the position of the running wheels (2.6 mm too close to the powered axles) - they say nothing about that.
They admit that the wheels of the new Ommi freight car touch the frame because of a design mistake, but simply say that the locomotives are strong enough to pull them.
Regards
Tom

How long is a piece of string Alex?

The Insider Club hasn't been that great with processing membership payments, they have had some organisational problems, but those seem to have been fixed in recent times. Did you join through Dion (he tells me you ring him several times a week)? I would guess that it may take a few weeks to get the membership set up, but you should get all of next years magazines.

I did it directly through Maerklin.com

But customers do complain about the position of the running wheels (2.6 mm too close to the powered axles) - they say nothing about that.
They admit that the wheels of the new Ommi freight car touch the frame because of a design mistake, but simply say that the locomotives are strong enough to pull them.

Hi Tom,

In my understanding, the "talk" on model track radii was an explanation about the "position of the running wheels". That, I believe, is what they were implying, otherwise why talk about it?
It is a perfect explanation as to why the the running wheels are 2.6 mm too close to the powered axles.

They do not mention the offset running axles, they only talk about wheel diameter and oversized flanges.
Then they talk about small radii and say that they require some compromises - without mentioning a specific loco or a specific compromise.

Small radii require compromises. The old Roco E 17 has the axles at the correct position and the minimum radius is 358 mm. Roco can do, Märklin can't - why? No answer to that question from Märklin yet.
It's fine if you take their words as an explanation.

Reminds me of the Märklinism of the new BR 23. At first they said it had to be like that - and now they make new models where the Märklinism was corrected (it's "Schwinge" in German, I don't know the English term (lever, swing arm?)).
Regards
Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the example about the BR 23. I was not aware.

Yes, there probably are "Marklinisms" in the explanations on the supposed and real "shortcomings" on the E17. Of course I use the word shortcomings advisedly, because to many purchasers, there are no shortcomings at all, seeing as how it runs perfectly on R1 track and over M trackwork generally.

Perhaps the Marklinisms are code for "We haven't had time yet to re-design the xxxxx for this model, so we are going with the old, settled, proven method/technology/solution, and the purchasers will have to accept that for now. We are of course not forcing them to purchase it."

They don't need to admit that it is possible to redesign the xxxxxx.
Neither do they need to reveal that in the future they might, or will re-design the xxxxx.

If I was running the development and marketing departments of Marklin (purely imaginary of course), that is exactly the "Marklinism" I would use. I would be happy with any of that, as long as we were not misleading prospective purchasers in some way. There are plenty of forums and public opportunities to discuss real, fantasy or possible shortcomings in models.

regards
Kimball
