Hello,

I did try to find this answer on the board before posting. My question is in digital operation, can one just hook up the brown and red wires to the center studs and track rails or is there something more needed for digital operation. I just disassembled a small oval track w/digital and there was a connector with what looked like a decoder (circuit board) instead of just the female and male connectors. The decoder connector came from a starter set and there were no part numbers available. I admit to geezer syndrome as I assembled this oval many moons ago and can find no documentation to figure this out on my own. Regards, Steve

According to the Marklin electrical manual you are correct with the red and brown connectors. I believe what you are seeing is a radio (noise) suppressor which is not recommended for digital, only analog. Fred

Most likely Märklin 74046. Remove this when you go digital.

Märklin made some black boxes for FCC compliance of digital layouts - mfx works better if you do not use those black boxes.
