Fellow Model railroaders,

I have bought a Marklin ICE starter set recently.

When I put the TRacks together, they snap.
Now to disassemble them, do I just pull the tracks apart with gentle force???

How durable are these snap joints, I dont want ruin them...I have spent about 680$ on this set.

Please help...

VJ

Hi, VJ,

the snap joints meanwhile are rather durable (older versions could suffer embrittlement), but it is best to not only pull the rails apart, but also to bend one of them slightly sideways or upwards at the joint. Doing this it comes apart exerting almost no additional force. and it will snap in place safely next time you join it to another track section treated likewise.

Märklin decribes this in its catalogue. There should be an english version of this, too, but I only found the german one. BTW, I think the pictures show the approach fairly clear.

Best regards

When we were kids we enjoyed our tinplate trains rattling over tinplate tracks - nowadays they're in need of sound decoders.

And while disconnecting keep your fingers close to the joint, but on the ballast (make sure not to touch or exert force on the track). Exactly at the same place where they have shown the green arrows in the previous post
